Just noticed I'm apparently due a refund from the IRS! $117 apparently, what's the betting if I download the form they'll need my bank details to "pay" the money in for me ๐Ÿ™„

I've been getting phishing emails claiming to be from HMRC for ages - these things are never what they seem.

If there's one thing we all know Tax Deptarments (be they american or british) don't do and that's telling people THEY owe YOU money!

Actually the Canadian (and possibly the USA system from what I've read) does generally give a refund. The way it works is you're deducted at source for a lot of tax like PAYE but then you get a whole load of "credits" (like child education; DIY etc, etc) that you claim by filling out your tax return at the end of the year. Everyone fills out a tax return and the expectation is that most people will get a refund - it might only be a few hundred or simmilar but you do get a refund.
