I have an Intel imac and the HD crashed. I had re-partition the disc so lost all my itunes mp3 files. However I still have most of them in my ipod. Is there a way of getting them back on to my reinstated HD from my ipod? I also now have a laptop (PC) so same applies?
look at http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/software/ they have various tools for getting music off an ipod.
There's a number of software options, but usually the cheap or free ones restrict the amount you can copy at any one time, so it's worth investing a bit of cash in it. I lost nearly 80Gb of music trying to copy in one chunk from my laptop to an external, but managed to get all the important stuff back off the iPod.
if you didn't buy them from itunes (specifically, they're not DRM'd), then winamp, with ml_ipod, will nicely take all of your tunes, transfer them into a named, standardized directory structure, in one go, for free. Its also vastly better (imo) than itunes at managing your music in the other way, too.
If they are DRM'd, then you might be able to get apple to do something (some DRM methods allow copying once or twice, to cover this exact scenario). I'm not sure of the specifics of the Apple solution though.
