Anyone got to the upgrade point on their contract and gone for an iPhone? Were there any charges for changing to the iPhone and could you pick a plan?

+1 on crap 3G speeds. Really dire. I switched in October from o2, and whilst orange are cheaper on sum only, 02s 3G speeds were MILES quicker.

We were on o2 with the ip3 and the switch to Orange hasn't exactly been a success. Best thing about original I phones on 02 was they did the repairs or swaps for faulty phones!! Not anymore, all problems have to be dealt with now by an official Apple store. Might not seem a big issue but mines 50 odd miles away!!!!

The 3g has always been pretty crap since ive had the ip4. Ive had one go wrong on me so far. The camera shutter stayed shut constantly. Had to take it to the genius bar and the nearest was 30 mile away in bristol crib causeway. To be fair they swapped it straight away but you have to make an appointment. Not sure what the it is to change over now. I had to pay £30 for the 16gb one otherwise they wanted £130 for the 32gb. Also the insurance (Applecare) is £12 a month when you go with orange.

Not so much an iPhone issue, but I was on Orange, and used to get cold calls from Orange dealers trying to flog me upgrades, which continued for the best part of eighteen months after I went to O2, because I took my number with me. Bloody annoying it was, too, and just for that I would never recommend Orange.

Orange (everything everywhere as it's now known) has a massive network freeze on which it consolidates it's network after it's merge with T-Mobile, so as it stands atvthe minute it's pretty crappy as only the bare minimum of outages are being used to rectify issues.

O2 ( now called Telefonica UK) are in the process of a Ran share with Vodafone creating "Cornerstone" & their network is far superior as it stands..

They are also the only ones to be getting ready for the U900 frequency band that'll soon be available once they have cleared the EGSM, and as such will have double the 3G bandwidth, so will make things a lot quicker...

Cheapest phone ins I've found so far was to use an up graded bank account. 7.50/m inc a bunch of other stuff I use (Halifax ultimate reward account)
HTH

Btw orange 3G in Bedfordshire is mostly fine. Was in south Kent at the w/e and it was shocking there.
