Why won't it let me actually use the phone?

Every other app/touchscreen works fine,

But it won't let me use the screen to make any calls.. 🙄

Oh. and to cap it off- I can't even turn it off to reboot... 😐

Any ideas??

you don't need to turn it off to reboot... just hold down the home button and the lock button for 10 seconds.

Jobs a goodun.

just hold down the home button and the lock button for 10 seconds.

+ 1 - the apple logo will appear, then let go of the buttons

Run the most CPU intensive app you have and let the battery drain. Once dead plug it in to charge and it will have rebooted.

The above really should not be necessary tho and it sounds like you are doing something wrong.

apologies for this, but just in case you are doing anything wrong:

Hard Reset Instructions

Follow those instructions to the letter (like I said, sorry if this is what you are doing, but it pays to check).

If that really doesn't work, then your phone is borked... take it to an apple shop.

if only you could take the battery out to do a reset eh?

although the amount of times i have had to do this with my aging n95 is a bit annoying so i'm gonna update to an iphone or a htc desire soon!

. take it to an apple shop.

Agreed. If reset doesn't fix it then call your local Apple shop, make an appointment with a "Genius" and if they can't fix it you'll likely get a replacement.

too late for TS, but you can't call and book an appointment, you need to go to the apple store online and make the appointment (my batteries being flakey after 10 months hard use)
