We will be in touch
Hi, my 5 year old uses my old Ipad mini to play some games. The screen and home button have finally given up the ghost and I am wondering about a repair.
It is running 9.3.5. Ideally I would like to repair it, wipe it and reinstall the games he uses and nothing more, as it has become quite slow too.
I am concerned that if I repair it, then wipe it I will need to install newer software that will basically make it unusable and the repair would not have been worth it.
Thoughts? (other than "I don't give my children an ipad") đŸ˜€
It will only upgrade to the last compatible version.
cheers Drac, to be clear you mean that it will automatically upgrade to a software version that the ipad can run?
The ipads are a bit tricky and expensive to repair (if you don't DIY) - if I remember right you'll likely need a heat gun as many parts are glued, I only did a couple as favours. Another reason I like the iPhone SE is its relative repairability.
If you go ahead it'll be just fine after a wipe and reload with the latest supported iOS - you don't get a choice, it'll just do it it with the latest it'll run, unless you restore from backup rather than restore to clean.
Apps will be the problem. Many only support latest/more recent iOS and once deleted cannot be reloaded. Had this problem with my iPad 1 which admitedly only runs iOS5 !
There is no need to wipe the machine as suc i believe. It’s slow as processor is old and new websites and apps rely on faster processors (IMO)
Good point with the apps Jamba forgot about those.
ok , he isn't using apps really, well not as far as I know. Minecraft, bowmasters and peppa pig painting đŸ™‚
