Just got a wd mybook. And am trying to transfer photos stored on the iPad on to it. How do I do it?

Copy to PC.

Copy from PC.

I doubt you can do it directly. There's an Apple "camera adapter" which gives you a locked down USB port, but I think that's just to import to the iPad rather than export from it. Could be wrong though, not exactly my field.

I dont think the CCK will let you do it in reverse - I'll give it a whirl tomorrow if I remember. It's probably as Cougar says and needs to go via a computer. I don't remember an option to export, only import.

Or you could use icloud or dropbox etc...

Use the Goodreader app

http://www.goodiware.com/gr-man-tr-servers.html

It can link to various NAS's, FTP server etc.

Essential purchase to make the iPad usable

If its just a vanilla MyBook, then you have to let iPhoto or similar back up your photos via your computer onto the external; if its a NAS, one of the web-connected versions, then there's a dedicated app to give you remote access to the drive, independent of the computer.

It's actually dead simple, download the WD photos app from the app store. Connect it to the NAS, then you can view photos stored in the Shared Pictures folder, or upload the photos from you IOS device straight to it.

Works perfectly for me on my livebook. While you're there, get the WD2go app, then you can access anything on there from the network. I grab files all the time from it and as my itunes library is on there I can stream music straight to iphone from it to play in headphones or through speakers.

Edit: This is assuming the OP title is a typo and it's about a NAS drive - if you've just got a USB mybook then it's not going to work.
