Upgraded iPhone 4 to iOS6; having problems with mail - push mail not coming through over wifi; works fine over 3gG though. Using Gmail & Exchange accounts.
Anyone any suggestions?
Andy
Okay on mine.
You could try deleting the mail accounts then recreating them (assuming you have it all set to store on server so you won't lose anything).
Failing that Settings->General->Reset->Reset All Settings is always a good "nuke everything" option if anything is screwy after an update (doesn't delete any apps or anything, but you may need to re-enter some passwords etc).
Is it every WiFi connection or just certain ones. Is it just the Gmail account of the exchange account as well?
I had an issue that Gmail wouldn't push (or pull) over the WiFi network at my office (I think its something to do with ports or some other such IT gubbings). However setting up my Gmail account as an exchange account (which is all Gmail really is in the background) allowed push to work fine over that WiFi network.
Using Gmail via Exchange already. Seems to be an issue with other wifi networks as well as the house, but haven't really had a chance to test this.
Also affects work email, which is native Exchange.
Seems weird that it would be OK over 3G but not WiFi but its not the same issue as mine.
I'd still guess at an issue with the WiFi network/ISP than with the phone as I'm not aware of something that would behave differently dependant on the type of connection. But you will need to check a different WiFi connection to check.
Can you pull the emails to the phone via the WiFi or does the refresh just time out?
Can you connect to exchange on the same WiFi network via a different client? e.g. Outlook on a PC or Mail on a tablet. (not webmail, this will be different)
Refresh takes an age; have had to force quit mail - usually works on a restart.
Mail (same accounts) works fine via Mac Mail on 10.8.
Weird. I'd try deleting the mail accounts and re-setting up. If that doesn't work a factory reset may be the only option.
When I first set up my Gmail via Exchange I didn't put anything for the Domain in the account settings (as per instructions). When I upgraded to iOS 6 I lost the ability to flag Gmail emails. A quick search on the Apple forums suggested adding gmail.com into the domain on the mail settings et voila I got my flag back.
I know the problem is unrelated to yours but something in iOS 6 messed with Gmail Exchange so it might be worth a shot.
The domain for when you set up gmail as an exhange account on an iPhone is m.google.com.

Not according to the instructions I found on the Apple forums which worked for me. The server is m.google.com and the domain is gmail.com. Maybe it works either way but initially I read that I didn't need anything in the domain setting. However when I upgraded to iOS 6 I lost some functionality that returned when I added gmail.com to the domain setting.
Having to use Gmail app as a short-term fix. Grrrr.
