small amounts in bank shares.
Don't go to a bank as they will have limited products normally from only one provider.
Seek out an Independent Financial Advisor www.cherryfind.co.ukis a good place to start. Any Independent Financial Advisor will give you the option to choose how they earn their money before you incur any costs.
It's not as scarry as it might at first sound and the advice is normally better than just going direct to someone who is a tied rep for one company who will be targeted towards certain products.
Investing in the FTSE is a complete gamble, you would have lost 30% of your money had you invested at the beginning of 2008. Go to a Casino you'd have more fun!
I've got a few quid saved and have looked at various investments but I'm keeping it in cash at the moment rather even though I get a lousy interest rate at the bank. Things are so uncertain at the moment I'd rather keep it safe.
