Hi

any ideas on the best way to get internet whilst touring round Scotland - boondooks areas (with a computer a kindle and an ipad). Currently on BT - so get Openzone - but suspect it's well limited, now thinking about some sort of wifi dongle etc but again wondering on how good coverage is in some of the more scenic areas and worried about capacity limits.

Can anybody suggest some potential solutions - thanks

I think you may be missing the point of touring in remote areas........ 😉

Your only choice would be a 3G/4G dongle of some kind I guess. Or a mifi thingy if you need access for multiple devices over WiFi. You'd just have to take your chances with reception though.

I thought that where a householder had BT Internet that it created a 'hotspot' which someone sat outside could access?

If so then as long as you are in even the smallest town you'll surely pick up something.

You'll do quite well for finding cafes and accommodation with wifi. In the north of scotland vodaphone were originally ahead of the pack in terms of getting mobile coverage in originally but that was some time ago and 3g is pretty scares. With a dongle you shouldn't have terrible luck with EE given they combine two networks but if the access in important then maybe more than one PAYG dongle and different networks, given they're so cheap these days. There there are holes in one network's coverage they can be pretty big When I've been working up there its sometimes been a 50 mile round trip each evening to confirm that.... no, I haven't missed any calls or texts.
