Does anyone know if there is anything like an interchangable modular audio jack plug that can be fitted to headphones?
I have a set of studio headphones for home audio production stuff - sometimes I'm working on my laptop, without an audio interface, and I need to use a 3.5mm adaptor on the 1/4" plug. Other times, I can be in a studio or using a mixing desk etc and they plug straight in.
The problem is that the 1/4" connection is loose, and compounded by using the 3.5mm adaptor it can be pretty crackly and unpleasant.
I'm going to replace the plug, but before I do I wondered if anyone knows of anything where you can change the tips of the jack between 3.5mm and 1/4 on the same connector?
As in a 3rd "standard" plug which would then need adapters for 1/4" and 3.5mm?

That sounds a lot more work than 5 minutes* spent soldering on a new 1/4 jack.
*includes pontificating over which soldering tip to use, the ethics of using lead solder rather than the green stuff** and making a cup of tea.
**the green stuff cracks meaning stuff gets thrown away, thus bad for the environment.
I used to use Sony Studio monitors where the adapter would screw on to the smaller jack. No crackles.
screw on adaptor on my Sennheiser HD25's as well.
Are they really 'studio' pro quality? If they are there may well be alternative leads you can buy. I know my Sennheisers came with a super tough thick straight cable but you can also buy coiled cables and thinner/lighter ones for mobile use.
They're a set of old but good Pioneers, with a non-detachable cable.

No, just wondered if anyone made a plug housing that you could change the tips on. Using adaptors is always a bodge.

Thanks, will take a look to see if I can find something like that.
Seems easy to find the adaptors, just not the plugs
