I'm trying to find the above for my mum's house since she moved into a home.

It seems that insurers generally need (i) either all water pipes drained or the CH on to 15 deg over winter and (ii) regular property inspections.

CETA/Insuremyhouse currently seem the best price-wise at least, using Ocaso. Is there any way of avoiding this? Any insurers to recommend?

They're all much of a muchness these days but, ordinarily, the existing company would be your best bet.

Just a thought, if the property is being sold then the solicitor involved may have a facility that will take it (they often have something in place for properties in probate) for a short period.

Ta. terms from previous insurer are similar but they've hacked us off so much we want to go elsewhere - and they won't do contents.
