I'm getting a marked increase in spam 'likes' to my posts and stories on Instagram just lately.

It's annoying as hell. They always seem to be a young lady with dubious promises and with zero followers and zero posts, presumably created by an evil robot.

This is an example.

Nothing has changed my side as far as I can see. Not looked at or signed up to owt dodgy.

Does everyone get these?
Anything that could have happened to trigger the increase?
Anything you can do about it?

I delete and block each one of course but it's a real pita.

Same here. My worry is that it increased after I blocked one, rather than ignoring it, which is what I normally do.

Yes, delete and block.

Reasons why this happens? No idea. Guess it can't be anything to with the fact that some interweb algorithms know that generally we're a bunch of middle-aged men with slightly offbeat/nerdy hobbies and a left field fashion sense and that messages pertaining to be from attractive, single young ladies with uninhibited and outgoing attitudes will possibly get our attention...yeah, right!

Now, obviously if they added that they are willing to discuss tyre pressures, mowing, optimum tread patterns, sheds, how to set up tubeless, Brexit, what hair clippers to buy, have a clear opinions on 160mm forks, flats or SPD's, 26 ain't dead/650b/29'ers and "Are E-bikes are the spawn of satan or the future? Discuss", then I'm sure they would attract far more followers and likes.

I was thinking about starting a similar thread. Never used to get them, now 3 or 4 a week. I often find that if I ignore the notification for a few hours, by the time I do click it the account has gone, so insta are getting rid of them pretty quickly.

Yep. Instant block. Probably get one or two daily. Pretty annoying, but at least it's easy to deal with.

I get loads, just instant block same FX traders and other scammers.
The annoying thing I have noticed lately is I am getting more and more suggested posts most of these were women wearing less and less clothing or with OF accounts turns it was because I liking a fellow cyclist posts and he was following liking various dubious women that I was getting them suggested to me!

The other thing that's annoying as hell is when you make a post, and immediately you get a comment like, 'hey, promote it on @instawardrobes' or whatever.

That's surely some kind of automated spam ballcocks too.

So many bloody parasites out there 😡

It definitely wasn't happening a few months back though.
Not sure what's changed.

I block and report them. Doesn't seem to work, and as above has possibly increased them.
I'm slowly going off all forms of social media

I often find that if I ignore the notification for a few hours, by the time I do click it the account has gone, so insta are getting rid of them pretty quickly.

Most days I get a red dot telling me they're X.no of notifications but when I click through theres nothing there so I suspect there plenty of accounts getting deleted before I even see them. Do your bit where you can - it's as easy to report a dodgy account as it is to block it. Blocking it only serves a purpose for yourself, reporting it means instagram have to do something about it and maybe in time start taking preventative rather than reactive steps if it starts to bother them as much as it bothers you.

It definitely wasn’t happening a few months back though.
Not sure what’s changed.

It's only started happening to me since I started following you. Makes you think! 🙂

Not looked at or signed up to owt dodgy.

If a spammer goes to any popular account you can get a handy list of everyone they follow and are followed by - ready made spam list. And for each of them you've got their follow / followers list and so on.

Yep, same here. I have noticed that they often disappear before you can block/report them (ie there's a notification that leads nowhere) so I've got a bit less vigilant about blocking them now. Thanks to those who are being vigilant and disappearing them!

Its interesting that Instagram are very fast to act on these kinds of accounts but Facebook seem very reluctant to delete obvious spam accounts.

Instagram can be oddly picky though. theres someone persistently spamming the hashtag of my locale with screeds of photos of the counterfeit currency they're offering for sale. So if you follow that hashtag you get Beach, Beach, Kite Surfer, Beach, 20 posts of jiffy bags of cash ready to mail to customers, a curlew, bundles of cash, dingy. - if you report either the posts or the accounts theres not combination of options that covers 'counterfeit currency' and therefore however you report it the response is that the posts / account don't break their rules. Where as they delete the accounts in the OP inspite of the fact the accounts have no post and therefore have done nothing that would fall foul of their 'community standards'

I mentioned this to a friend and she said "they're sex people", which seems to be the case. I just ignore them.

‘hey, promote it on @instawardrobes’ or whatever.

Those are bloody annoying, yeah. Is a real person doing that (depressing thought) or can bots post comments on Insta?

I don't bother blocking as I hit report as spam instead and they soon vanish.
