So, here is my problem:

I live in Northants. Generally speaking there isn't much going on round these parts if you're a mountain biker. Predominantly as a Downhiller the area is a bit on the level side of things so I find getting out on my DH bike is becoming less and less frequent.

Anyway, other than moving elsewhere (possible) or becoming a Marshall at Silverstone (not for me) I'm finding myself becoming bored more and more frequently and doing the very mundane things at the weekends like 'going shopping' and 'stopping buy a nice little coffee place for a hot drink and a cake'. Nothing wrong with those things of course but for someone who has spent 20 years racing motocross, 5 years racing karts and now DH that sort of thing doesn't cut it every weekend.

So, I need some ideas. I've been stewing over new things to try, new hobbies/sports to take up when riding my bike isn't on the cards so some inspiration would be helpful. So, in a nutshell, what other things take up your free time/weekends other than mountain biking?

For a big part, road riding and racing. Great fun. BMX racing is also fantastic, try and get down a track now and then. I've also been playing badminton for ages now, and still really enjoy playing (and coaching), and I also box, which is stupidly fun, and brilliant training (specially during winter).

But don't confine yourself to sports, I love films (and some TV series), books, music, etc.

I've got a mate who makes his own guitars, and there's always learning an instrument, or a language, or any skill that could make your life easier/better. Cooking is really fun when it's not just a chore that has to be done.

Windsurfing - find a local lake, get an early planing board (big and wide), big fin, big rig and you will be screaming along in no time. Plus all the gear can satisfy your inner technoweenie.

Skip the title sequence and watch them try to reach 50knots.

I did the Tourmalet Duathlon today and then went shopping in Atlas coming out with a chair, we'll have to go back for the sofa on Monday as with the bikes in the van it wouldn't fit. When your reflexes are no longer up to exciting sports, endurance ones are still on.

I've been toying with the idea of Time Trialling. Initially because I think the bikes are works of true beauty and I want one, but the challenge of a TT really appeals, plus there are an awful lot of TT clubs around here it would seem.
