Is it bobbins? It sounds like bobbins. But I don't know enough about financey stuff to know that it's bobbins.

Had to Google it - looks like an ICO with an added hook. I can't see how it's guaranteed to succeed though, having lots of people with a virtual currency given to them for joining is still very different to that currency being used for global payment processing.

The payments system does need an overhaul but it still needs all the big banks etc. to buy into it as well and Q looks to be trying to (at least eventually) bypass banks so it's unlikely they'd be supportive. Global payment processing is one of those things that's only likely to change with international agreements and mandates/legislation which just isn't going to happen (and certainly not to base any change on a private company's system).

I’m still not convinced by this but I signed up and I’ve got 3 invites left.

Here is my invite link: [removed]

I'd guess they're trying to build a massive user base they can then use to pitch for investment. Probably nothing, but signup is trivial and doesn't ask for anything like bank details.

[edited link out because I missed the 96 hour hurry hurry hurry in their sales pitch. Looking forward to my eventual 20p]

What’s there to be convinced by? They don’t have anything except a vague plan to do something “big”! (Actually, what they do have now is a great big verified suckers list of people who believe get-rich-quick schemes can work 😀 )

Interesting write up here:

Oh, it's definitely going to be a bait and switch if it takes off. If it's more than nothing, whatever they're giving away will end up equivalent to a $10 gift card and a room full of investors laughing.

Indeed.

Initiative Q 2018: "Hey, who wants to make loads of money?  We don't actually have any money, but tell your friends!"

Initiative Q 2019: "Hey, who wants to buy a database?"

In the interim, every third post on the Internet is a referral link.  It's like ****ing DropBox all over again.  Except at least DropBox gave you something.
