At Braehead, can you just turn up get a pass and fire on the slopes? Or do they require that you have some knowledge/training firstly? (I did a dry slope skiing module at school for PE at school 25 years ago, if that qualifies? 😆 )
If they spot you are rubbish they might pull you off the main slope on to the baby slope.
That's about it.
You sign a disclaimer.
cool, cheers.
Do you have to be able to ride a drag lift?
At braehead, yes
At mk they will remove you from the slope and suggest rather strongly that you get lessons. I can't imagine it would be fun falling off the drag lifts either
If it is something you wish to pursue do the full day lesson. Snowboarding is pretty much just an exercise in falling off if you don't have someone to show you the basics. You will have a much more enjoyable time as well.
Get some lessons if you've never done the drag lifts before.
I've been snowboarding for 17 years and I still stack on draglifts now and then.
Definitely worth getting an introductory lesson if you are new to it.
Drags aren't easy for newbies and it is too small a space for people that don't have at least a bit of control.
Oh and be aware that Braehead do freestyle nights with kickers, boxes and rails - you'll probably want to avoid those (at first!)
Tonight was mogul night. You should probably avoid that too!!
cheers all, what the minimum amount of training you need? I'd a quick look at their board in a day thing, was 160 quid! 😯
The group lesson is only £39 for 90 minutes. If you get a reasonable group then that'll be enough to get you started safely.
The minimum standard is usually that you have to be able to control your speed and link turns in order to get down the slope
I did a two part learn to board session (basically two evenings) at the MK snow dome - I'd do the same if I was starting out again now
I'd probably avoid the board in a day course - you're likely to fall over a fair amount & it is pretty tiring - I was ready for a break after my first evening lesson (3+ hours on the slope)
sounds, thanks again. £39 quid effort sounds the ticket then I think.
Point taken on underestimating how tiring a full day could be at first, I guess I'm not 13 anymore trying to get dozens of runs in in a few hours at bellahouston dry slope! 😆
Worked at a dome for many years and politely removed many a chancer who thought they could rock up without a lesson. (This includes skiers and boarders; skiers the most dangerous as it's easier to get to the top of the slope and turn yourself into a missile. Snowboarders tend to be flailing around on the floor unable to work out how to stand up once they have put the board on).
Please don't think you can blag it or that a 90 minute lesson 1 will be enough.
If you do manage to blag it, without learning proper technique you are only holding yourself back from learning to ride properly.
Good luck anyway, you will love it!
