want a new/betterer head unit for the van. current one is crap at what it does... constantly loses the GPS signal, selects random letters when entering an address and it seems like a few sections of it are stuck on Russian.

what i need from it:
GPS
radio
bluetooth/handsfree
compatible with the reversing camera
SD card reader and USB a big plus, too.

was a little surprised when i looked at some in store the other day. upwards of a grand for some units.

what would you recommend?

cheers

Your problem is needing compatibility with a reversing camera. You could do all the rest with a DAB/FM head unit from Sony/Kenwood/JVC with a smartphone plugged in and NavFree installed on the phone.
Anything with a screen built in that will use a camera feed I'm pretty sure is going to push the price right up, as it's a limited requirement.

If I end up buying the Isuzu pick-up I'm considering, it comes with one of these - Pioneer AVICF950DAB - ticks the boxes, gets good reviews. RRP is around a grand, but they are kicking about for £600

Hmm, thanks Jota. Would be nice to see a review of the roadasauras. But I like the idea of an android unit.

Although might be a safer bet to go with the pioneer.

Any other ideas from the office crowd?

I'm not at all sure I'd have much faith in the reliability of that Roadasaurus unit, but the Pioneer should last for years, good kit, that.
