I am toying with rejuvenating a blog I tried to start in 2014 about reducing my car use (if I can get down from 20k pa to 12k that would be a good result for me for now).

The idea is partly to keep me motivated but partly to prove that it can be done even if you're balancing a long hours job with plenty of travel, distant relatives and a young family and also to pontificate on some of the barriers.

Back to the questions...

If I take photos on places like station platforms (private land?) and use them am I potentially landing myself in any warm or hot water with land owners?

Would you try to avoid capturing other people in shots that you didn't know (e.g. street scenes)?

Any other moral hazards I should think about with images?

You can take a pic and use it fine, somebody will have the rules but it's fine unless you commute inside a military base etc.

You're legally allowed to take photos of public people without permission (your "street scenes") and in public places generally despite protestations to the contrary.  However, certain geographical locations are exempt from this, railway stations being one.

Thanks both, had a funny feeling about railway stations for some reason.

I do this kind of thing for a living and can assure you that you're highly unlikely to get in any bother for using photos of railway platforms etc on a personal blog.

Just don't take pictures in court, whatever you do.

Network Rail say photography is allowed, so long as it is non-commercial. https://www.networkrail.co.uk/communities/railway-enthusiasts/railway-enthusiasts-and-photography-at-stations/
