Having a week there in May with friends.
Highlights of your trips please. I have a big birthday while I’m there so a non dress up brilliant meal would be good.

Sevilla is an amazing city, I used to live there 95-96 and keep going back for holidays.

I would recommend finding a roof top bar for an evening drink near the Giralda, that's lovely.  There's a few of them, for example in the EME hotel.

There's a million good tapas places, too many to list. I like Casa Pepe Hillo near the plaza de toros. El rinconcillo near Las Setas which was recommended to me for jamón but closed when I tried to visit.

Las setas are worth visiting. Huge mushroom shaped structure, you get a good view from the top, there's a Roman villa excavation underneath.

Abades Triana is a nice posh meal option on the river.

A trip out to Itálica is well worth doing (used for a scene in GOT) it is a fantastic city and a good way to see it is on a organised bike tour, oh and Plaza de España

A week gives you time to strike out to other places.  Cordoba is 140km away but only 40 minutes on the RENFE high speed train and well worth a visit to the Mezquita and Roman Bridge.

There's a barber there you should look up, he's a legend. Just don't ask him who cuts his hair.

Highlights of your trips please

Sitting outside a cafe in the old town watching the world go by. It really is a lovely city.

The Cathedral and Alcazar are recommended. Queues for the former can be fairly long, so time your visit accordingly. You can spend as long or as short as you like in the Alcazar.

Convento de San Leandro - if you are walking past this is a fun 5 minutes - my son described it as like doing a drug deal, and the crack nuns of Seville were one of the highlights of our trip for him. The sweets are pretty minging though.

Fatouch Lebanese on Calle Feria was very good - probably need to book, although they do have a takeaway across the road and a couple of street tables. There's also a nice games bar/cafe across the road too (Checkpoint Arcade bar). La Locanda di Andrea on the same street was also very good - Italian, but served in tapas style small dishes.

Have a coffee in the Hotel Alfonso - the place is welcoming to people walking in off the street, and pretty amazing architecture. Coffee was good too.

Probably the best bit of the trip for me was paddleboarding up the river - we used Paddle Surf Sevilla, and the sunset tour was excellent. The water was lovely (I may have fallen in once or twice) https://maps.app.goo.gl/CFw3dsxhdQhogp2e9

The Alazar, the Cathedral, the Plaza D'Espana are all worth a visit. We did a Segway tour first, which was actually really fun, and gave us a good idea of the geography of the city.

Be prepared for non English menu-s etc.

Its a great place especially the old town.

Nothing really gets going until quite late which we were not used to.

The old Olympic Stadium and surroundings were a bit sad when we went ,but was a good few years ago.

The football stadium nearby looked a great place to go if a match on and thats your thing.

Some great historic buildings esp the Cathedral.

Mercado Del Barranco is nice in the evening, Tapas market that was designed by Eiffel who did the tower in Paris. Postiguillo Bar was also very good for Tapas, near the Cathedral. As mentioned before it's late before things get busy due to the heat in the Summer, and of all the places i've been in Andalusia Seville did seem to be a place where you would need to speak/understand a bit of Spanish as menus etc. aren't translated. One of the most beautiful cities in Europe, enjoy!

I can highly recommend Catalina La Barra restaurant, Pl. de la Alfalfa. Exactly what you described. Informal but excellent. We sit at the counter and watch the world go by. Wish I was there now. This is the one for your special birthday.

Mercado de Triana is a fantastic market with cheap bars & eats. Super fresh produce.

Triana district is well worth a visit in general. It’s less touristy. I’d go to Las Golondrinas tapas bar for top notch, great value tapas. It’s on Calle Pagés del Corro.

Enjoy!

We stayed in the old town right across from the cathedral. Lots of rooftop bars around and restaurants in the side streets just behind the cathedral.

If you like football I can recommend going to see Real Betis for a night match as the atmosphere before and during the game is the best I've experienced.

We were there for a few days 2 weeks ago.  We stayed at The Lobby hotel (near the Mercado de Triana) which was very nice and slightly quirky - staff were excellent.

Segway tour was great and, as said, lets you get your bearings quick quickly.  Other than that we wandered around for 3 days drinking coffee and eating great, cheap food.  The palace is pretty amazing and worth a look.

There are literally SO, MANY, BARS!!

If you're there for a week though I'd be looking to visit somewhere else as well though as we felt like we'd seen all we needed to in 3 days.... obvs YMMV.

I don't like city breaks TBH but this was nice.

A tapas bar in a basement, it was over 40°C outside  and pleasantly cool in the bar.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. I'd do 3 days in Seville then move on to a different city, Cadiz for example. A couple of nights in Cordoba would be good.

Cordoba mosque is worth a visit, don't forget to take your shoes off. Cadiz is indeed worth a visit, very pleasant old town and beach with a sailors and prostitutes naval port just around the headland.

Compare this thread with a thread on other cities and there are fewer suggestions than usual for a reason.
