where would you look first? I've a motorhome to sell (since my dad died he won't be needing it). I've rung the dealers where it came from and they'ed love to buy it but only for bottom book price ... I understand everyone has to make a profit but they've stuff on they're web site 5 years older with 10 times the miles for 8 grand more.

So if you were in the market where would you look first? internet search, auto trader, camper magazine?

Ideas most welcome

Cheers

What is it? Stick an ad on here. Stick one on your local gumtree website. Use local paper etc.

DON'T go to the stealer - they're only about one thing and that's making money for themselves.

There will no doubt be a STW type website for motorhomes - go find it.

PS I'd love one but I aint got the spare cash..... 🙁

Could try motorbike websites

If you email the details I'll ask someone I know who deals in motor homes how much he thinks it should sell for, I won't speak to him until next week though.
Cheers.

I've looked on ebay for one, but lots don't sell.
Also, autotrader, trade-it, gumtree, advertise in the van window, etc

How much?

i'm weighing up getting a vw t4/t5 camper at the moment, coming in as a casual browser with no prior knowledge of the market.

autotrader is first point of call, no question. then ebay (but seems to be buyers looking for a silly bargain and sellers, as far as vw are concerned, wanting silly money) and finally as i get more interested i seek out specialist sites.

have you also considered a specialist dealer who sells on commission?

What a stupid comment to make. Thats like saying dont go to tescos because they only want your money. Of course they do, thats why they are in business. Do you expect them to sit there and say "Oh, its his ol mans motor, and he's passed away. Offer him £8 grand more then".

Anyhow, to give some proper advice, i would call quite a few motor caravan dealers if i was you. Havent traded in them much as they are pretty specialist but from what i have, there can be massive fluctuations in value dependednt upon area (dont just call local) and time of year. If a dealer has someone on for the motor they will be biting your hand off as there is some quite rediculous margins on campers for some reason.

You have missed the boat a bit for this season though. It may be worthwhile considering holding off untill next year. Most campers sell in feb/march time as people want them ready for the upcoming season rather than bang in the middle of it. Thats the high time for camper sales. Also, with the way money is at the moment it will give the markets time to pick up a bit if its a vehicle of high value.

Nothing wrong with putting a few autotrader and camper mag ads out for somewhere between trade & retail but bare in mind that there is a LOT to go wrong with a camper and as they are high value they usually insist on dealer back up so dont get greedy as buying privately means they are taking a big risk (I asume its high value because you mentioned the £8k price difference)
