This came up in my YouTube feed and I initially ignored it as I thought it would be one of those 'documentaries' by someone who didn't really know what they were on about.
But, the presenter is from NASA and its well done and quite funny. For a space geek like me it's fantastic...

That Light years ahead video is amazing for anyone that hasnt already seen it. It show just how hard core and how calm the astronauts were on that first lunar landing

Enjoyed that. Shuttle landed on autopilot, but it’s notable what you can do with a well coded computer. If you haven’t been to the Kennedy Space Centre, you owe it to yourselves to go at least once. The shuttle hall is very moving.
NASA engineers estimated the rate of catastrophic mission failure at 1/200 (the chiefs stated it was 1/100000). For the 135 missions flown, that’s a 50% probability of at least one failure. One shuttle did not make that landing, the other never made it into orbit 😥

For anyone who has an appreciation of aerospace, seeing Atlantis in the way it and all the Shuttle artefacts are presented at KSC will blow your mind. A very, very memorable day topped off by a SpaceX night launch.

It only currently does 50000ft or 10000 ft finals but they’re working on full atmospheric re-entry as an update.
Thanks for that, I didn't realise that A) the shuttle wasn't shiny or B) they controlled speed and descent by skiing down the glide slope 🙂
