Fed up with with Virgin and was looking to change when a flyer came through the door from Toob who are a new company on the south coast currently wiring up Southampton (vans have been in the streets for the last few weeks) and offering 900MBPS upload and download for £25 which seems good.
Phoned Virgin to see how much I save by dropping broadband from the package and it plummets form £83.50 per month to £79 per month.
We just want a standard land line and TV with the ability to record and watch lots of Murder She Wrote / Father Brown / Diagnosis Murder / Morse / Death in Paradise / Midsummer Murder etc
What TV and phone package do I want?
No landline. Mobile only.
tv is streaming only. Netflix mostly, occasionally now tv or Disney for a month if there is something particular on.
Broadband and land-line tend to go together as they are connected services - you can't have one without the other.
We have broadband, but no land-line calls package as we make all outgoing calls on our mobiles. We still have a land-line - so my mum and dad can call 'as phoning mobiles costs more money'!
Costs £21.95 / month with Talk Talk (who we've never had a problem with). They do TV as well for not much extra.
I'm with Sky for TV though as it's the only place I can watch F1.
If you have fibre broadband but still want a non-mobile phone you can ditch the landline and get VOIP with a DECT phone / adapter and suitable provider - BT are currently rolling this out to their customers.
Murder She Wrote / Father Brown / Diagnosis Murder / Morse / Death in Paradise / Midsummer Murder
You don't need a TV provider for ITV, just an aerial 😆
TV all online. We have Netflix, Prime and Disney + all the normal catch-up for terrestrial channels. Rarely watch 'live' TV these days tbh.
We have a land line (and an old wired phone to plug in) for emergency purposes if mobile network went down.
Fibre internet with no need for attached landline here, so we just have fibre broadband at £22.50 a month, plus a couple of mobiles, and then Netflix and other normal UK terrestrial TV apps (iPlayer, All4 etc.). No ability to record anything, but can honestly say that I've never missed that.
What DezB said, what you want is bog standard freeview, you've then got a month to watch anything you missed on iPlayer/itvhub/4od before the popular stuff get's shifted to Britbox or bought by Netflix/Prime.
offering 900MBPS upload and download
I'm assuming you meant 900Mbps, 900MB/s would be something quite spectacular!
For £25 I'd not turn it down. But what are you planning to do with (near) gigabit internet? Netflix are apparently re-encoding 4k at an average ~1.8Mbps!
Yes 900 Mbps, I left my finger on shift a little too long.
Will check out what 'free tv' gives us. We have been on the Virgin bundled packages to get 170Mbps I had sort of forgotten the option of just using a TV aerial and NetFlix. Wife much prefers scheduled TV to on demand as it is what she is used to and doesn't like being forced to choose what to watch. When we first got Netflix I was instructed to just press play and see what was on.
No landline, everyone in the house has a mobile.
Broadband is FTTC, my ISP provides the line and it's data-only so the rental is a lot lower. When BT are doing FTTP installs again I'll likely switch as FTTP is the same price as FTTC+rental but twice the speed.
TV is freeview over an aerial, there's enough channels on there really.
Haven't missed the ability to record a show since our DVD/HDD recorder died in, oh, 2010?
We have a land line (and an old wired phone to plug in) for emergency purposes if mobile network went down.
The mobile network is pretty damn resilient to be honest. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but when was the last time you actually had no signal, even in a power cut?
When we first got Netflix I was instructed to just press play and see what was on.
This sounds like a great opportunity for the next thing that's on to somehow always be the next episode of whatever it was you fancied watching.

As long as it is a repeat of Miss Marple / Poirot / Endeavor etc

You have forgotten Columbo.
