With taste, cost, convenience in mind, it hs to be the humble [s]boiled egg[/s] satsuma for me. Tasty, cheap and not overly messy - they're just great.

The watermelon on the other hand.....

but this isn't top trumps is it?

Top trumps would have you rating the fruit on various characteristics. For example, pineapple is tastier than an apple, but an apple is far more portable.

What 6 categories are we rating on:

Taste (obvious)
Value (have you seen the price of strawberries!)
Reliability (you can get shit pieces of good fruit too)
Portability (as above)
Ease of preparation (pineapples, melons, all nice but a bloody faff)
Versatility (rhubarb = crumble, but sod all else)

For me, it has to be: They're tasty, you can carry it, they're cheap, rarely disappoint (unless you're stupid enough to eat green ones), so simple a chimp can work it, and can be used in so many ways from raw to fritters, banoffee pie, barbecued with a flake stuffed inside, with custard....... a banana

All round versatility has to go to the banana.

Other contenders include chirimoya, mango (hard) and pomegranate.

you are left with the wrapper with a banana which you have to dispose of, as with satsumas.. must be some fruit you can eat totally...?

Jeez, I didn't expect to be offered out over a humorous discussion on the pros and cons of different fruits.

The point is that top trumps requires you to test your fruit against mine based on various points. It's not top trumps if you're looking for the best all rounder. The best all rounder isn't necessarily the best in any single aspect. Daley Thompson wouldn't win any categories of top trumps (athlete version of course, not the fruit one. i don't think he's a fruit) but he was a fine all rounder.

And for the record it isn't about being sanctimonius, it's about being right. Pedantic prick I could have accepted.

PS: there's no 'H' in Jon. But detail clearly isn't your strong point.

-> 😉 <-

theotherjoHnv - I obviously know what Top Trumps is about or I wouldn't have mentioned it in a poll type thread for the best fruit. I just couldn't be arsed coming up with amusing properties like HtS has just done.

deHrek_sHtarshHip

I can't see what HtS has added, it's just a red x in a box. You know, the sort teacher used to put next to your work when you were wrong.

As she would have put next to your first post.

Well spotted nothing gets past you. I think gave it away a bit though, even mispelling it did not get a reaction off to subtelty school for me
