expires on and use by .... = midnight that date or end of that month etc
before ..... = end of the day/month before
valid until = scaredy unsure

I would say until means that [i]up until[/i] the 9th. i.e when the 9th comes around it is no longer valid.....

It's like this - if it is valid then I can drop the kids off at school, jump on the train, do what it is i need to do and come back, pick the kids up from school, take them home and it'll only cost me the price of a train fare from falkirk to glasgow and return. If not it'll cost me the price of a ticket from edinburgh to glasgow and back, which I am not for paying, so she'd have to do all the kid stuff.
