Anyone got any ideas for snacks, feeling weak between meals. Eating plenty when i do eat. brekky at about 07.30 ish, and don't get chance for lunch till 1400, due to shift i'm on at present, don't get home till 20.30, not really hunger as such, but feeling a bit weak between meals.Drinking plenty of water. Blood suger throughout the day is between 4 and 5 mmol, so slow carb doing its job, just need something rather than almonds to snack on. Halfway through week 3 so far. Anyone tried combining slo carb with a paleo type diet, to include some fruit etc?

Scruffwhassup bad the flatbread or the marmite addition? Now finishdtheblast of my lorry tyre batch, gonna make some proper ones tomorrow night. I rode 25 mile round trip to see mate last night and had 3 pints of bitter to fuel the ride home, I have missed beer! Snacks for me are usually nuts or chick pea flat breads or celery sticks spread with peanut butter, or I just scoff loads of ham or eat a tin of tuna, its not excing but it does the job

If I know I'll need a snack between meals I usually buy slices of poncy ham or similar from Tesco (stuff that's not fatty or too processed), not sure if that's strictly a good idea but I find if I resort to nuts I'll eat too many :p

pleased to announce that my cauliflower and parsnip mashed potato substitute* was roundly approved of by my kids who declared it even better than mashed spuds. Added a bit of garlic and olive oil.

jamest, I tried without salt as the other ones were a bit salty, lady at work says salt does special magic things in cookery, so I'll keep the salt in next time. I need to find something to eat with marmite in the morning.

Dave, thought you were Oirish ?

also tried a kind of energy bar - gram flour, loads of pine nuts, some flax seeds, salt, an egg, caraway seeds, chili - made it quite thick and baked. needs further development but not bad.

I think a gram flour energy bar could be good idea might try this. My recent lorry tyre flatbreads were caused by too much gram flour in the mix, made em really dense, for an energy bar this would be ideal though.
Scruff - yes salt does do magic things in baking you need it

I tried that in the States once. I complemented the cook on the best mash potatoes i'd ever had and i couldn't believe it was mainly cauliflower.

If parsnips are in, does that mean Jerusalem artichokes are OK?

Ive just found that lots of cadbury's celebrations and some cake equates to a decentish pace on the road bike, even with 20mph head winds.

Dahl on toast for me tonight (post workout). I found it really hard doing my (albeit lightweight) weight routine tonight, but then i worked out what i ate today and realised i'd only had piece of blackpudding/2 fried eggs/small portion of quinoa for breakfast, half a bag of salad/a tomato/half a chicken breast for lunch, and some almonds as snacks.

Yesterday i cracked at lunch time, but it wasn't my fault... ok it was, but i'd had an incredibly **** morning due to idiots. The chicken caesar baguette and chocolate brownie from M&S did make me feel better though.

I was back on track last night and i've just made some onion bhajis for dinner later.

I had my 2 days off (after a long weekend in Spain where I had a few days off, but I was doing a lot of windsurfing and biking) and expected to be way over.

But no. 89kg. Down from 98kg in May. Which is lighter than I've been at any time in the last 20 years plus. And my ability to get to the top of the hill first is increasing too. Good man iDave for cajoling me to start.

Yeah I am still on board, and losing it steadily (doing 95% slow carb as still having muesli). I enjoy my cooking and find this works really well, tonight I had cauliflower and cannelinii bean mash with garlic and paprika and a big fat steak.

Been on the slo-carb/iDave for 4 weeks as from tomorrow. Weigh-in this morning, lost a total of 5.5 KG, 4 cm round my belly. Due to domestic stuff and work shifts, only ridden once in the month and bugger all else, so will see how month 2 goes. Feel generally better, not really craving bread, pasta etc. Cheat day today, but don't seem bothered about sweet stuff etc. Happy days!

A pleasing side effect of the diet for me is that I don't feel the constant urge to clear my throat which had been a lifelong thing and people had assumed was some nervous thing. Which I always knew wasn't the case. I'm also finding a surprising number of endurance athletes are only taking med/high GI carbs before during and after training now.

I abandoned the iDiet for 9 days and lost over a kg and an inch off my waist.

I ate at least a baguette a day, tons of dried fruit and nuts, energy bars, crisps and chocolate. A three course meal every evening with seconds or thirds of each course. Before eating an iDiet compliant breakfast of eggs I tried to eat muesli topped with porridge... I did do an awful lot of exercise though.

I drunkenly told someone (a good runner) one day years ago that any old eejit could do a five minute mile..."I mean how hard can it be?"...he laughed at my youthful stupidity and bet me a tenner I wouldn't do one in six minutes, let alone five. So, we arranged a meeting at a running track, he told me that I should probably use a pace maker. Off we went for four laps + the extra bit for the mile.

I swear, I balls-out sprinted for four laps - at least that's what it felt like - with my housemate (also a handy runner) pacing me for two and a bit of them. The last lap went by in some kind of delirium. I crossed the line at 5.50.

Then I puked.

Then I collapsed.

Lay there for around 5 minutes before I could even speak.

Could hardly walk for a few days afterwards.

So, yeah, I reckon a sub five-minute mile (for a non-running type person) would be damn difficult, yeah. 🙂

Hmmm... so you're saying I shouldn't even try? I've done a tad over 6 mins with no training.

I might have to have a run with the super-fit iron man at work and see if he thinks he can train me up for it.

Day before my crash, I weighed in at 80.5 Kg, diet is very easy to go with these days.
Doesn't even feel like I'm trying anymore.

Now the hard part is to avoid weight gain while I'm laid injured, but recovering.

I can still walk, perhaps even get onto a cycling machine in the gym.
But I still have a lot of upper back pain and swollen muscles in the neck and shoulders.

Challenge now is to also get my intake correct with respect to giving the body what it needs to effect repairs.

I did the Great Yorkshire 10k run the other year. It's an out and back course. So while I am killing myself running at 7ish mile/min on one side of the road, these kenyan chaps come sprinting past the other way. Might as well have been sitting in the pub for the exertion they were showing.

Yeah, you might have added too much doubt Darcy. I am going to do some running this winter though so I'm keeping it as a target. Want to put in some serious base work and maybe lose a bit more weight... don't want to get injured!

It's an out and back course. So while I am killing myself...

Same here with both the Bristol 10K and HM - a good stretch of both goes out the portway (underneath the suspension bridge), so yeah, you get the see the bastards come flying past, already about three miles ahead of you - looking like they're just lolloping along...and what's worse...you have to applaud them. It's how I imagine Molly runs since he adjusted his footstrike. 🙂

Sat eve, did a nocturnal road ride with a friend.
Some distance into the ride I crash big time at considerable speed.

Double fracture to right wrist, severely impacted back in region of D1 ? vertebrae, very pain upper body pain now and swelling, yadda, yadda.

I've tried to avoid calling on Mr Ibruprophen, have had to relent occassionally.
Fracture clinic yesterday saw me told that some of the injuries may never fully heal, I've been awarded a blue polyester cast for my endeavours.

So, learning now to do stuff LH'd and by myself.
Go on, now I suppose you're gonna tell me its going to rain.

I can't get back on a bike this side of xmas, which really sucks !.

Thats the dilema. I'm not going to compromise maximizing my recovery, from a diet perspective, but after reaching 80.5 Kg, shedding fat while increasing muscle, was very motivating, would be a pity to see it reverse.
Does boosting one's intake of certain micronutrients, actually contribute positively to the body's repair ?.

Apparently, some fragments of bone typically wont knit back to the main body of the main bone.

I've started taking a calcium sup and drinking milk (yuck) for a temporary period, in light of no other advise.

Been thinking of seeing my GP.
Will make an appointment tomorrow.
Upper body pain and swelling is concerning.
Also passed pink water after the crash, but thats stopped now.
Also internal chest pain in the area of the esophagus.
All was repoted at A n E, but they only seemed interested in the wrist.
It was a proper body slam on the deck, after I'd used my face to plough the verge.
Mate recons we were doing mid to high 20s mph. at the moment of the crash.
