My usual plumber was snowed under, so I have another company come and get my boiler back up and running in the rented flat.
They have diagnosed a cracked heat exchanger - cost £850 to replace on what is a decade or so old boiler. Parts are £590 + £225 labour.
eBay I can find both main and DHW heat exchanger for under £200...
Should I avoid ebay parts?
bump
You could buy a cheap boiler and get it fitted for the price they have quoted you!
Drop me an email Matt at flamegroup dot com and I'll see what I can do.
EBay parts are usually non genuine but I don't know of a non genuine main heat ex for that boiler.
Cheers Matt
The parts are genuine according to description and pics.
I think new boiler installed and certed. Is upwards of £1200-1500.
Bugger. Part doesn't fit. Transpires Ideal changed heat exchanger part way through production....ffs. I am a couple of hundred in for labour and two drives to the Highlands to sort.
New boiler time...
I bl**dy hate being a landlord. Anyone want a three bed flat in Highlands with a new boiler for £110k?
