After many years saying I will try and learn im finally going to give it a try. I'm hopefully going to have lessons with a friend of mine who is a music therapist but are there any books/dvd's around that you would recommend for a complete novice? I'm even thinking about trying to read music properly but I realize this may take a long time. Any advice would be greatfully appreciated. Thanks
I'm thinking guitar teacher isn't my calling in life. Good luck though - just get some basic chords and you'll soon be strumming a few songs (Chasing Cars is A, D and E)
Cheers singlespeed. Just added that to my favorites. Just the sort of thing I was looking for.
No Probs ๐ there's loads on you tube but think he's best with his lesson index n videos n all.
as for the learning t read music thingy,
i cant read tabs to save my life, but used to be abe to play guitar form sheet music. Presumably some people can do both. I'd rather be able to do tabs, as that seems to be what everythin online is written in.
I wouldnt get to wound up in the trying to learn to read music thing. its boring!concentrate on enjoying playing and you'll pick it up passively. As for resources, the advice for justin guitar is bang on,its really good.
my main bit of advice would be to learn slowly and learn right. Dont practice bad habits. A good teacher by the way is the best way to go.
good luck, and dont get despondant when your not steve vai after a week.
