Not that I'm competitive, but I need to produce a list of 8 songs with the theme of "heroes" to vanquish my workmates.
I've got all the obvious tracks with "hero" in the title, but it's a bit shite.
Any suggestions for something a bit less literal? Songs about heroic characters?
So far the only thing I can come up with is "Joan of Arc" by Lenny Cohen...
Joan of Arc - OMD
😀
Boys are back in town / jailbreak
I can't actually think of any examples but folk music likes to mine heroic tales.
Actually, isn't Bob Dylan's 'Knockin' on Heavens Door' about Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid?
Similarly, 'Davey Crockett, king of the wild frontier'...
were the rose is sown - big country
68 gums - alarm
search for a hero - m people
hung up - paul weller
The Men Behind the Wire - Wolfe Tones
camaflague.............. 8)
Flash Gordon by queen any help?
Bonny & Clyde
The mighty Quin
Just like Jesse James
Oh Superman
Did you get this song?
One and only - Chesney Hawkes
Patriot Game - Bluebells
Liking some of these...
Keep 'em coming.
Hurricane is another Dylan one.
Joe Hill if you want a hero / sticking it to the man song.
Loads have sung it - Luke Kelly's version is good.
Princes of the Universe from the Highlander soundtrack (there may be others on there too).
The Armageddon theme(I don't want to miss a thing) - Aerosmith
(Everything I Do) I Do It for You – Bryan Adams (Robin Hood)
You could go with the 60s version too 🙂
Paul Kelly - Bradman
David Bowie - Space Oddity (Major Tom)
Flip it and throw in some Madvillain.
Black Grape - Kellys Heroes -
Iron Man - Black Sabbath (ish)
(just in case you missed that one. i like to whistle the chorus when someone's bragging excessively at work)
(slightly tenuous)
that's my tuppenceworth anyhow
Another vote for Where the Rose is sown by the mighty Big Country who hail from your own toon as well !
Folk but one of the best 'heroes' songs I've heard;
These two should win it for you on their own:
pixies - tony's theme
slf - nobody's hero(es?)
pogues - jessie james (or maybe even navigator) ?
specials - nelson mandela
public enemy - fight the power
(who did john wayne is big leggy ?)
(who did john wayne is big leggy ?)
Come on, everyone knows it was Haysi Fantayzee. Possibly the s***test 'band' in the entire world. Well, maybe second only to Milli Vanilli, but then they had their own special category of terribleness.
Another John Wayne song;
haha !Come on, everyone knows it was Haysi Fantayzee. Possibly the s***test 'band' in the entire world. Well, maybe second only to Milli Vanilli, but then they had their own special category of terribleness.
just found a vid on youtube - only 3 comments on it in 3 years, and all from the same person who put it there in 1st place 😆
(linky no sociallyacceptable-y)
Wolverine Blues - Entombed (Wolverine, X-Men)
Detective 27 - G//Z/R (Batman)
I Am The Law - Anthrax (Judge Dredd)
Spiderman Theme - Ramones (er, fairly obvious)
Hanging Out with Halo Jones - Transition Vamp (Halo Jones)
The most obvious one Holding out for a hero by Bonnie Tyler.
What no Bonnie Tyler 😉 ?
oooh, what about vegetable man ?
(I like the JAMC one best though - one for the good covers threads !)
Right, try again. All my posts haven't worked so far...
Anyone mentioned The Jam's version of the Batman theme?
anything by Radioactive Man
Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy - Television
You might already have some of these:
Scott Walker - Hero of the War
Swervedriver - Kill the Superheroes
Chemical Brothers - Who Hero
and my personal fave
I'm guessing you have Heroes by Bowie and that one by Tina Turner.
Probably slipped his mind 😉
Don McLean's American Pie is full of references to heroes.
Similarly Billy Joel's We Didn't Start The Fire
Particle man - They might be giants
<
The Tallest Tree by Roy Harper.
