I laughed in the office to which everyone else came to have a look and also laughed. Although its funny to watch fair play to them for still carrying on, I would probably wait for the broom wagon!

I'll have to watch this later.

fair play to them for still carrying on, I would probably wait for the broom wagon!

My approach, to paraphrase Dean Karnazes, would be: “If you can't run, then walk. And if you can't walk,... give up.”

I love the commentary..."their bodies obliterated....in a battle for 4th place"

Makes it even funnier that it wasn't for a race win 🙂

There's clearly something wrong with me. It's interesting, and shocking, and a little sad, and maybe awe-inspiring, but I fail to see the hilarity.

Yeah, I wondered about that too.

I quite often have dreams like this where my legs won't work and I have to crawl to get away from something. I say dreams, they are mild nightmares.

Sadly, there's some gutless sick a-holes who find this funny. Maybe they weren't tough enough to be a bully at kindergarten or something. 🙁

Give those competitors some credit for their courage.

I kept a sraight face until 1:28sec when 'mummy long legs' walked into frame.
That did it for me still laughing just thinking about it.

Yes I am bad and I know it.

Honestly cant imagine myself ever being that Knackered. Maybe I just give-up to easy.

Yep,
Sorry me too.
I laughed, in fact the whole office did.

Well said Specialknees.

The only credit Im giving is for making the woman who sits next to me laugh, first time I seen that in 3 years.

Some people give that much effort because they have to to stay alive.
I will save my 'real credit' for those more worthy in this world.

Sorry, dead serious.

As far as I'm concerned laughing at people who are suffering is an activity for scum.

It doesn't matter why they are suffering.

Whaaaat??? That's not suffering! It's a selfish desire to beat someone at all costs to feel the glory and satisfaction of winning! FFS man, it's funny that a) if it's genuine, they're so hell-bent on crossing the line first that they'll allow themselves to look so stupid, or b) as is my suspicion, it's a couple of silly middle-aged yank women hamming it up for the crowd.

Laugh away! 😀

Well done that man.(shibboleth).

If I had the vocabulary Thats exactly what I would have said.

For me it stinks of ''selfish desire''.

No sound for me and small screen so Didnt really take in the American bit.
Now Im really laughing.

It was their choice to continue suffering, unless, of course, someone had kidnapped their children and were threatening to shoot them unless they finished.

Yes they were gutsy, determined, stupid? or whatever you want to call it but at the end of the day John Cleese would have been proud of some of those moves.

I could understand your indignation if someone had asked if it had been a qualifier for the paralympics...............but no-one did and it wasn't!

I think you are out numbered on this one.

Watching the news yesterday I saw a father, hands in bandages carrying the coffin of his youngest child. If i recall correctly his three other children and wife died in the same fire.

THE LOOK ON HIS FACE WAS ONE OF SUFFERING. Your interpretation of the word 'suffering' is wrong.

I was full of admiration for that man, its a horrible comparison I know but you really do need to get into the real world and save your pity for those that deserve it.

Been in the real world, thanks, and it's sad that you think me being 'outnumbered' on this is relevant.

As you point out, there's various degrees of suffering. No degree of suffering is funny.

That clip was as hilarious as Tom Simpson falling off his bike and dying.

You really don’t get this do you.?
My point about being outnumbered is very relevant. I’m trying to point out you are in a minority of one. I suspect you are in familiar territory.

Please don’t compare the Tom Simpson event with this, he died. Unless I missed something those two women didn’t.

Maybe its best we drop this one. You are obviously deluded.

Cynical and epicure - I think you both need to refer to my post right at the top as I am sure everyone will agree they are tougher than us all put together.

But it was funny and I am sure they will have found it funny when watching it later too.

Can we all agree.
We shouldn’t really laugh but if we do its OK?

Specialknees comments are getting personal but I can sort of see where he’s coming from.

epicyclo
If it makes you feel good by not laughing so be it. Your Tom Simpson comparison is poor but Im sure you know what you are trying to say even if no one else does.

No, but go ahead anyway. It's nauseating that anyone should find this funny.

Those folks bodies had shut down to the extent that they had no control, and I doubt much rationality. Probably very close to the edge. Perhaps someone medically qualified might comment.

My point MF is that if you had a clue what that experience was like, laughter would not be your first reaction.

It would be your second, like mine 😀

I know what they are going through, having gone through almost that after 5 hours at the London Duathon (20k run 80k bike 10k run, so a bit like a 1/2 ironman). The result for me was stopping to strech out the cramp every 5 minutes on the final 10K run, it was excruciatingly painful. But ultimately what have I achieved, I beat my mate, ran and cycled as fast as I could for 5 hours in spandex eating snot in a sachet. To most people, my wife included it's insane, and she openly laughs at me...

I thought it was hilarious, and that was my first reaction

Personally I give more credit to people prepared to push themselves to the limit voluntarily, when your back's against the wall and you've got no choice but to fight that seems less worthy, at least to me.

And the funny walk was excellent!

It's a selfish desire to beat someone

I'm guessing, but I suspect it might be a selfish desire to beat themselves.

Perhaps that's why it's not a barrel of yuks for me. I've no issues with laughing at the foolish and will guffaw at 'epicfail' videos with the best of them, but when there's an overriding emotion going on then humour sometimes takes second place.

Wholeheartedly applaud djglover's comments though, 99 times out of a hundred that's where I'd be too. cynic-al likewise.

Nah, not that funny - I wanted to find it funny, but there's so much funnier stuff out there that I didn't feel like wasting my laughs on it. I just didn't really react to it at all - maybe a little embarrassment for the two ladies, but there you go, if we all found the same thing funny, then there'd only be one comedian. Mind you, if that meant Al Murray was on the dole, that wouldn't be a bad thing either. 🙂

Doing a Helly Hansen adventure race in December, in the rain, at around 3 degrees, one of our team seized up with cramp near the end - to be honest, the other two of us massaging his legs and trying to beat some life back into them, while we effed and blinded at him must have looked hilarious to the other competitors - and it was funny to us, but just a while afterwards. 🙂

I think some folk need to chill out on here.

Admiring the tenacity of the 2 women to finish at all costs, and finding the manner of their running are not mutually exclusive, and can be felt together.

I'm not wholly sure I'm with myself.

My take on humour is simple. Either, everything is fair game, or nothing is. Any middle ground is prejudice or double standards.

I've previously argued, loudly and vociferously, in defence of black humour. In times of crisis I firmly, aggressively believe that humour is a coping mechanism and I will defend that right whilst I've got breath in my body.

Just, I don't find this funny. *shrug*
