Judge me. I deserve it!
I really am the most petty SOB on existence aren't I?
I don't mean I break highway code etc,I just mean if giving way is optional, well, I don't.
I attempt to justify it by seemingly noticing** Beemer drivers don't feel the need to use indicators and always seem to be the cars merging on the right when a dual turns to a single lane...whilst Not indicating to merge... I have other reasons too but they are even more petty!
Pretty ridiculous to be honest right?
Strangely,I don't have problems with Audi's or other makes.
Oh apart from some 4x4's of any brand that seem to have proxy BMW drivers in them.
** I have no data to back up my lunacy.
I really am the most petty SOB on existence
What’s existence.
Is it a new type of benefit ?
You’re not alone Poop. If anything I am worse than you. I don’t give way to BMW’s, Audi’s, buses or taxis. No idea why (well, apart from taxis, they can **** right off)
Edit - the worst ones are the bastards that push their way out of junctions and then wave like you let them out. I once called the bluff of a lady that did this. She reversed back in to the side road and bumped the car waiting patiently behind her. I was happy for the rest of the day.
I drive a Vauxhall vectra (the wife’s) or ride a bike
This is the point at which you tell us what you drive. You know that, right? 😀
Is it a new type of benefit
Oh God please no.

It's a Superb, of course.
It could be any FWD dull as dishwater Euro shitbox. 🙂
I drive a 4wd BMW 😕
I drive an Agila rocking a throaty 1.0L engine. Yet more shame I know! 😀
Good on fuel though and no one nicks the steering wheels from them for obvious reasons!

Than Christ for that. I still feel petty about it though! Lol

Hmmmm.... if its got a private plate then you could have a full house? Especially if it starts with an X then a number 😆
I actually got rid of my Audi because of the way they are driven, I had a 1.6 TDI so couldn’t race anything.
Now I drive a VW and treat BMW,AUDI, TAXIs and people that try to push in or force their way through gaps the same as you.
The Touareg that I drove for just over a year was quite possibly the nicest vehicle I have owned ..but ultimately too rich for my blood to maintain £2000 in tyres alone!
Not all 4×4 drivers are discourteous ..ultimately though I had bought it because of our rural setting and thought it would be good in winter ..it was crap ..
Poopscoop - MemberI drive an Agila
You shouldn't be jealous of people who own cars that they can enjoy driving. 🙂
You're not alone.
I once had a big E-class Merc as a company car (it previously belonged to a director who got a new car and returned it to the pool, I got lucky). I quickly found that no-one ever gives you a break. People will deliberately accelerate to close gaps rather than let you out. In the end the only way I could get anywhere was to drive to the stereotype, barge my way in and not indicate as it just tips people off. You complain about BMW drivers never indicating, you've only got yourselves to blame I'm afraid.
oldtennisshoes - MemberI drive a 4wd BMW
V8 X5 or one of the shit ones? 🙂
Can't say I have been treated any differently when driving my BMW compared to any other cars. Drive normally, get treated normally. Life is far too short to have to work out what car is up ahead in case I need to get angry at it.
I really am the most petty SOB on existence aren't I?
To be fair, that was evident on the Ling thread.
When you buy German you have privileged access to roads. It's about time the jealous peasants understood this.

Is it a 1-series? I never had much bother when I had one either.

It's definitely a thing. I saw a similar phenomenon when I was given a godawful Micra as a (dis)courtesy car. No-one ever gives way to you, you just get bullied off the road.
Range Rovers for me.
Bullying is a real thing. My daughter has had a few frightening experiences being intimidated by big strong men types for having the audacity to drive at 30 in a 30. My son less so, even though he drives just as slowly with an insurance black box. He is around 6ft tall and well build though. Funny that.

I could have a narcissistic gif fetish too.

It was just an observation. You went off the deep end a bit on that thread in my humble opinion. Those actions led me to believe you might be a touch petty.
But then we all are to a certain degree.
CougarYou complain about BMW drivers never indicating, you've only got yourselves to blame I'm afraid.
Absolutely, it's a self fulfilling prophecy! That's what gets me,I should know better. Life is too short as someone has said. 🙂
where the hate coming from beemer drivers? I notice this everyday in the motorway where i'm just cruising behind (safe distance) to a lorry, just chilling/killing time really and listening to old music and plenty of cars hesitant to overtake .. i think they are thinking I will just move to their lane without indicating 😐 very strange
btw, what is this stick that has arrow sign in my steering wheel, I have it since new.. salesman clueless as well, might just leave it then 🙄

I'll just say I'm voracious in my convictions. 😉
I drive a 4wd BMW, live just SW of London and ride an Orange. The majority of Stw must have it in for me.
Btw, we do indicate, it’s just that in BMW’s if you tap the indicator you get a short burst rather than a light that flashes until you turn it off (available for a firmer push), so you’ve probably just missed it. At least that’s outlr excuse.
Cougar - ModeratorIt's definitely a thing. I saw a similar phenomenon when I was given a godawful Micra as a (dis)courtesy car. No-one ever gives way to you, you just get bullied off the road.
+100. I used to own a lifted Hilux, the same time my wife had one of the mk2 or mk3 Clios. Switching between vehicles on the same roads, often on the same day and got treated completely differently. If you drive a little car more people will try to bully and intimidate you and take extreme liberties.

Nah, I still lust after an Orange. Hope to scratch that itch one day.
Pretty ridiculous to be honest right?
Yes, I'd go further and say judgemental and idiotic. The make of a vehicle does not define the attitude of the driver.
Although it does in your case.
I can out petty even the OP.
I will almost never give away my RoW. Very rarely break my rule for drivers I feel sorry for or any motorcyclist of cyclist.
Even more petty and sad is that I won't accept others giving up their RoW for me. You know the types. They approach from the left at a T junction when you are coming up the stem. They want to cut the corner so flash you out. As neither is correct I sit tight.
My justification is that if we all do things by the book then there will be less accidents and if going by the book you cannot be wrong. Anything Germanic usually gets special treatment as they are invariably driven faster than the speed limit and any commercial drivers also get the treatment.
I'm a miserable sod. 🙂
Probably got let out the most in the Jag.
People assume you're a doddery old bastard that hasn't seen you and will probably pull out anyway so tend to give you a wide berth. 😆
Didn't have a problem with getting out of junctions in the M5, just mash the loud pedal and smoke off into the distance. 😀
Had a 20yr old 1.3 Auto Micra which was also quite good.
Only 75Hp but not much more than half the weight of a *Renault Zoe so 0-40 was surprisingly quick.

you just get bullied off the road.
This is absolutely true!
My chavtastic Golf GTi was in for a service the other week so I borrowed Mrs Binners ickle Hyundai. I couldn't believe the difference in attitude from other drivers. And not in a good way. Proper nasty in fact. Tailgating you, cutting you up. Gave me a totally different perspective on driving. 🙁
Must be different in other parts of the country, but round here shit driving isn't specific to any particular make of car.
mattsccm,
I now feel petty liberal in my driving habits now! Lol

I'll just wade in and suggest it's an evidence based observation, rather than a poop.
Still though, classic ten pager in the making.
Blimey, you got cut up by an agila today I take it?
No I just read your post. You seem to feel its ok to be rude and obnoxious, or not offer any assistance to anybody based on the make of their vehicle.
Doesn't paint you in a particularly good light does it, but thats all I have to go on.
Yep, never give way to the sort of car a **** might drive. Usually give way to vans, taxis etc as they are going about useful business. And what kind of **** doesn’t give way to buses?!
Interestingly since swapping my car for a van, driving has become way less stressful! More people give way (especially other vans) and in turn I give way to more people. Of course sometimes I just drive out into traffic, but then you’re allowed to in a van aren’t you? 😀 Plus you generally win any kind of standoff situation.
for not giving way?You seem to feel its ok to be rude and obnoxious

You had a hard day in another thread by any chance? 🙂
I've had a couple of BMWs as company cars. The indicator arms work in a weird way and are very infuriating. made me wonder if people who have them long term just give up using indicators out of anger.

Happy times. There is a story to tell on that one but.... I can't. 😉
I’ve owned 5series estates and can categorically state no matter how well or safe you drive, there is always another 22 Beemers up your chuff or pulling out indiscriminately or sulking in the drivers seat.
Buy a hybrid, the nicest people drive hybrids.
Though, have to say, around here people really do not like you driving the speed limits... if you watch them in your rear view mirror they’re apoplectic and in total rage, bit like watching a pork chop in a blender.
Tosserz 😆
Must be different in other parts of the country, but round here shit driving isn't specific to any particular make of car.
Round here, the vast majority of utterly shit driving I see daily is from drivers of cars that say "MAX Taxis" in big letters down the side. I swear they don't have a licence between them.
I hod one road-rager yesterday, my crimes were to merge with traffic in front of him despite him speeding up to try and box me out, and then later driving slowly behind a cyclist for about 50 yards rather than pass inches from them or throw myself into oncoming traffic. Sitting at on-tow distance behind me, lots of flashing headlights, the usual asshattery. He eventually overtook me at about 70mph as I was doing 50 and about to slow as it changed to a 30mph limit. As he shot past I saw the logo emblazoned down the side and just thought, "ah, that explains it."

I have no choice but to drive at legal speeds (see car context above) but yeah, here in the SE I know what you mean.
See some nice, dangerous, heavy braking at the numerous speed cams though...
Zilog..not having a go here ..but what makes you think that people who drive BMW's, Audis , Mercedes or any other luxury branded cars aren't going about equally important business ..also to deadlines ..
Having spent the majority of my employed life in sales the pressure to get around to each customer was enormous and that was 20 years ago when the roads were a lot quieter ..
Reps still seem to get a hard time because of their "flashy" image ..but I always remember being told when starting out "Salesmen create jobs"..if it wasn't for the guy at the sharp end selling the stuff ..the factory wouldn't last too long..and the guys in the vans & trucks delivering the goods wouldn't last too long either..
Try to factor that in when making judgements of people in their nice cars ( and I do realise that not all of them are salesmen ) .
Reps still seem to get a hard time because of their "flashy" image
It's the shoes.
Haven't read the whole thread but OP reminded me of a magnificent BMW vs Merc standoff
situation in Malvern some years ago.
About this time of year, it was dark early, rush hour on a Friday.
We were walking down Court Rd (a narrow road, but plenty of traffic from schools and local businesses). Problem with Court Road like many is that parked cars along its length effectively reduce the road to a single carriageway. Cars have routinely to pull-in behind a parked one and then flash each other through. It's often a verrrry long process in rush hour to get from one end of this 1/4 mile road to the other.
Anyway, obviously on this night someone was impatient and decided to drive on through without assessing/giving way to oncoming traffic. So there is a big flash Beemer and a big flash Merc heading directly at each other with no passing space. They meet. They stop.
And they glare.
And they glare.
I get the feeling that no-one is going to back their precious [s]ego[/s] car up in order to allow traffic to flow once more.
They are locked in silent combat. After just a minute a handful of other cars are queuing behind each cockmobile. . Horns from behind being politely papped. But not the Beemer-Merc owners. They are just sitting there. Silently. Tickover time-bombs. Facing-off like middle-class, middle-age bulls in a field full of onlooking school-mums..
10 mins go by people are actually coming out of their houses to watch these two silent glaring nobbers do a absolutely nothing other than be nobbers. The sound of car horns behind them are now a wail of dissent.
By this time I (and my dog) too got bored and walked on.
I know they had gone by the next day. But I'll never know for how long that evening they continued to behave in such an utterly unyielding, humourless cock-like fashion 😆
My sister in law bought a BMW a few years ago and kept saying how quick it was. I couldn't resit the opportunity to point out my 1.4 fiat was quicker to 60.

Your wit never fails to entertain.
I’d say it’s the “neenaw” helmet with flashing lights that’s the giveaway, that and the 50p Xmas Tree lapel badge complete with flashing Star of David..
I drive a BMW (white too!). I use the indicators as per the highway code, I'm sure it causes more confusion!
TBH round here it seems not many can be arsed flicking the indicator stalk up or down regardless of car manufacturer.
So which model of car would you recommend for being let in, on slip roads?

Not the same incident of course but similar.
Took place under a narrow railway bridge from memory. 😀

I used to be one of those people, watching my Sales team roll up for lunches with clients, driving flashy cars, wearing shiny suits and having 11am appointments rather than starting at 9 and ending at 5 like we had to in professional services on client delivery.
Then I moved into the Sales team - hardest and most stressful job I've ever done with longer than the 60 hours I used to work. Although not an excuse, getting to a meeting on time that might just make that order happen and might get me and my family something more than average to enjoy in the rare downtime moments and might just keep me in a job sometimes causes some spirited emotion.
its not beemers comon
my pet hate is the creeper who sees the lights go to orange then red then snarls the entire roundabout up just because they are so ****ing self entitled they think they can by going through the lights just behind the next guy whos now slowly sinking into his seat thinking **** i maybe should have waited

We have a couple of cars but drive our 10 yr old Honda and I get tailgated much more plus sometimes you feel invisible on the road (no problem with this). Our Merc’s etc don’t get much “I’m not letting you out behaviour”, but I do try to use the indicators!
I’ve no doubt they’re all very important, and their time is very valuable - that’s why they can’t afford to waste time indicating, looking in mirrors, etc etc. I don’t not give way because they’re not important, It’s cos they’re ****s 😀but what makes you think that people who drive BMW's, Audis , Mercedes or any other luxury branded cars aren't going about equally important business

Wow. This makes almost no sense at all.
And what kind of **** doesn’t give way to buses?!
This kind baby! 😉
I have a hatred of bus drivers built up over many years of using buses. I’m convinced that one of the key requirements of becoming a bus driver is to be a massive ****. Not letting them out at junctions is my sad, yet sweet revenge
40 minute standoff between 2 drivers who won't give way.

one good thing about having a really crap car is if a bmw/audi etc is trying to force it's way through you can just hold your ground so they have to abandon. I always let normal people and buses out but bmw/audi/range rover taxis etc don't get any chances, they wouldn't give you an inch so why reciprocate. White 1 series bmw seem to be the new worst thing on the road, I guess they're the cheapest 'prestige' car you can get free from work these days.
