Well done Deb, more importantly, did you enjoy it ? Was it hard work dragging Binners round ?

Well he did struggle to keep up with me on the climbs 😉

But yes I did enjoy it there was one little bit which was a really steep slope on a corner down to a narrow bridge that I bottled and got off apart from that did the rest

Gook work. Did you do the rollercoaster bit? (think that's Gisburn...?)

You did indeed do really well. 10 out of 10 for bottle (she did ride the rollercoaster portlyone). And I'm allowed to struggle on the climbs. That's something of a trademark. So there! And I'd ridden the previous 2 days so my legs was proper tired, innit?

Llandegla is the next trip methinks

I struggle on the climbs just now as well, new tyres and they feel twice as hard uphill. Good to see riders developing their skills and lovin it! 😀

Bagpuss - I'm impressed.

Know what you mean about sharp corners. I got off once or twice going up that steep switchback section at Penmachno on Saturday, also when the trail really is narrow with a steep drop to one side.

I used to cry loads as a beginner, always falling off and getting lost.
Keep it up and we'll go out for a ride soon.

It's irrational and purely psychological, but the northshore at Gisburn gives me The Fear. Didn't help that one of the first times I rode it, we scraped up a bloke with a broken leg who'd come off it and sat with him until the air ambulance roflcopter turned up.

The time before last when I rode it, I actually came off due to sudden acute bottle failure and a total lack of forward momentum. Fortunately it's a nice soft (if moist) landing zone on that corner, so long as you can avoid the many pieces of broken bike that litter the area.

Last time I was there I made it over in one go, though I'd to stop for a minute afterwards whilst the Elvis Leg subsided.

Debs - tell Binners that 'Belmont' was on the lunchtime news today, regarding the moors fires. Don't think we'll be riding around there for a while now.

Bunnyhop - Its looking pretty grim over towards Belmont and Angelzarc. Its pretty black and charred. I was riding over from Turton and decided not to bother, turned and headed over to Darwen instead.

You could smell the smoke in the air over that way too. And plumes of smoke rising from all over the moors

sounds like a good job!!
Me and the misses went to the Marin Trail on Sunday and she rode really well, in fact she didn't walk anything (she did last time) and the track has really roughed up since I was last there

How would you rate Gisburn then? Clearly you enjoyed it, worth a trip??

Martyn - Tell Mrs S. she's amazing, we rode the Marin on Friday and I really enjoyed it. Penmachno has really roughed up too since we all last did it. There are some pretty big braking bumps making some of the drop offs big.

Gisburn would be good for mrs. S. There is more actual riding, as it's not as hilly. Some sections of the red are linked in with black bits, so you could do your bits and meet up. Imo very different to the Marin.

I didn't like the newer end bit where the board walk seemed to be very narrow and slightly up hill. The red ends up on the blue which is a nice cruise back to the carpark.

I've only ever been to Cym Carn, and that climb nearly made me want to cry!! Downs were fun though (and caught up with a bloke in front of me) 😈

Nice one for doing all that wood stuff though, seen some vids of it, and there's no way I'd do it!

I'm with emsz, cwm Carn up made me cry, down made me smile. I'd love to give downhill a proper go, got pretty good by end of the week in morzine (by that I mean I didn't cry), I just get scared of all the people kitted out really going for it, especially the storm troopers. Im still super scared of northshire stuff, can ride really narrow trails fine but put me on raised wood three times the width i freak. Well done girl!!

Elvis Leg

Love it!

They go up nearly every year. The problems only become serious if the fire goes into the peat like it did on Darwen moor about 10 years ago. Flares up all over the shop then. The charred moors will be bursting green before very long and recover really quickly. Its the nesting birds that really suffer.

The SPA's are more usually down south for the rarer birds so the Swinley Forest fire's probably causing problems this time of year but then ground nesting birds are gona find it hard to find somewhere up here to sit thats not BBQ'd!!!
