Anyone who criticises cyclists (guessing from your post) is only to be lauded on STW eh?

I dont get it are you being ironic ?

But is it really not possible to enlarge existing bicycle lanes, and have all large-wheeled vehicles – bikes, mobility scooters, double buggies; not wheel chairs or push-chairs – confined to it?

I had sympathy for the first few paragraphs but by the end I was wanting to hunt her down and run her over.

All I remember about Julie Burchill is she used to always say Robert Smith of the Cure was "Abitfat"
Well Julie, you used to look like this

but now

So maybe you should take up a bit less pavement eh?

It does puzzle me why some cyclists just point blank refuse to use cycle paths.

There's a long road where I live that goes from one side of town to the other with a cycle lane on one side that runs the entire length of the road. I was stopped for a drink one day when a guy on a road bike pedalled over to me shouting "did you see that?" I hadn't and asked him what had happened and he told me he'd narrowly avoided a collision with a car and suggested the car was at fault. I asked him why he didn't use the cycle lane provided, he said "all those pelican crossings are a pain in the arse". I then pointed out that it was no more bother than stopping for red lights on the road, in fact considerably less as on that stretch the lights change more or less as soon as you press the button. His reply? "oh, I don't bother stopping for red lights"

best description of Julie Burchill's voice I ever heard

"like a fire in a pet shop"

I bet the cars get annoyed that I'm taking up "their" road here too. Instead of sticking to the lovely "cycle path" where I belong.
