Has anyone ever had hypnotherapy to help overcome a phobia.

Now i have never been great with heights, but ive always managed to deal with it. Im currently doing some rope access work and it came to a tricky job on short ropes. For about 5 minutes i com[pletely froze and freaked out.

I trust the gear completely and when im 200 ft up just working im fine but if i let my mind kick in the fear gets me.

I was thinking of trying hypnotherapy because its most definetally the exposure aspect. If i can control the fear i know ill be fine.

Cheers all....

My wife had it to give up somking. One session and she never smoked again. Tried smoking once after and was really nearly sick. Most impressive.

I've heard others that say its done nothing for them, as with most things from what I can make out it depends on who you see. Try to find someone via word of mouth, if you're near herts/beds I can pass on this ladies number.

I've tried it for heights - nothing doing. I am a cynical old fool however so maybe not entirely receptive to it, some of my friends have had great success with it for other things.

My girlfriend had it for an extreme needle phobia - fairly important as she had to have regular blood tests after quite a serious illness.

The first time she had to give blood after her tunnel catheter was removed (pipe sewn into vein in neck, comes out top of chest, has taps) was three hours of tears and panic.

After one hypnotherapy session she could just about cope with the tiniest needle.

After a couple more, medium needle.

After a couple more, any needle they threw at her, so to speak.

So, really really worked. The therapist taught relaxation techniques that she had to practice, along with visualisation stuff. This helped her to control the irrational fear and deal with it rationally.

She recently qualified to jab other people (pharmacist, can give vaccines now).

The same therapist sorted out a friends claustrophobia.

For a phobia, you want the Rewind Technique or Fast Phobia method. Find a local Human Givens Therapist - it's their one trick pony.
