Just had a tin for my lunch. Lovely stuff. Nice and beef & tomatoey with a cheeky little spice kick and a bit of rice to give you that "I've eaten somthing substantial" feeling.

Only 210 calories for a 400g tin and low fat to boot.

Feel like a few pints of lager now though with that curry house aftertaste going on!

You ate TINNED soup?!! Oh dear god Derek!!!! Please tell me you didn't

I predict a proper middle class flaming coming on. A polite ione though. Complete with some simple but tasty home-cooked soup recipes.

Perhaps start a 'What sun-dried tomatoe foccaccia for *insert flavour here* soup......'thread?

😉

Sorry - I meant this. This is what I meant. With a slice of olive bread. Sublime.

Prefer Tesco Vegetable Mulligatawny soup (the one in the carton, does you for two lunches). I don't think anyone at the big T has ever tasted real mulligatawny, so they've just come up with a super chunky sort of vegetable curry soup. Delicious.

It's ok because he's Northern and it's expected of him.

Hmmm. Microslugs maybe.

2.6g per tin.

I'm afraid Fred that in these austere times, this is the only acceptable way for us northerners to enjoy owt as posh as soup

An open display of anything as ostentatious as Heinz runs the risk of getting you lynched, as people suspect you of being a banker

I love Heinz Mulligatawny soup. I have it for lunch about 3 times a week with a slice of mature Cheddar and some Pitta. My other favourite lunch is 5 Fish Fingers with a tin of beans tipped over them. Not sure if either of these meal choices qualifies me as a Chav or a Guardian Reader.

Fish fingers with beans on top? That sir marks you out as a culinary genius! I'm going to have to try that!

Greenhalgh's bakery do a "spicy vegetable soup" that is essentially curry soup. It's fantastic.

I do that with tomato soup(*). It's a habit I picked up from my dad forever ago.

(* - That is, I have tomato soup with chips in; I don't have mulligatawny with tomato soup in)

Indeed binners.

Although a recent yet modest profit related bonus allowed me a moment of sheer decadence:

I'm saving these for Saturday night. I will enjoy with a can or three of Daniel's Lancashire bitter.
