[Closed] Huawei Google ban implications

Morning all,

After an unexpected pan/phone interface I find myself in need of a new phone. My first thought was the new Huawei p30 as the camera has incredibly good reviews and I've been very happy with my previous Huawei and Honor phones.
The obvious sticking point is the impending Google ban due to take effect in August. Having read a few news reports on this am I right in thinking that all current models will continue to be supported and it only applies to those after then ban takes effect?

I would not bet on that, the company I work for and our many customers have had to completely cut ties with Huawei on US legal advice. We can't even have meetings with their staff! So I kind of doubt that their phones will be getting security updates, they just won't be cut off from Google Play.

I do hope not as I've recently started a 2 yr p20pro contract 🙄

Looks like existing phones are fine for the foreseeable future

That was my understanding from reading that article and a couple of others but my grasp of these things may not be the best so was after some further feedback.

From a few weeks ago:

TL;DR - I wouldn't worry about it right now. By the time it impacts the P30 a) they'll almost certainly have reached some sort of agreement with the US and b) it'll be near-obsolete anyway.

Seems Huawei are pretty crap at providing Android updates anyway. Yes, you will probably get a few security updates, but I wouldn't expect a new Android version.

Why risk it?

There are some great alternatives so why even consider Huawei mate, given current issues?

Pixel XL 3 here. Bloody fantastic bit of kit but the world is your oyster with Android.... Take your pic.👍
