I want to create an event invitation in HTML in an email. I'm very familiar with Adobe CS but don't know any HTML. What's the best way for me to do something like this?
Honestly? Don't. HTML email is a truly horrendous minefield.

Why don't you do it in Adobe CS and then just mail out the completed image? You seem to want to make life difficult for yourself.

Dreamweaver probably isn't bad for email as they're generally still built with tables due to the lack of support in anything more modern - as monkey says, it's a bit of a minefield.
I'm sure mailchimp or campaign monitor will have templates you can use though, which is probably a safer bet.

Do it as an image, select "send as HTML" on your email client, paste the image inline. Everyone's happy. Mine's a pint.
As people say, it's a nightmare - hundreds of email clients that may/may not render it properly - you need a text only version too if you really want to cover more bases - that's why you always get link saying "Can't see this email properly" and have a proper version on a server. Avoid if you really can.
Why not design it in photoshop and then use the slice tool so you can create links for each slice. Then choose save for web and devices, choose the option to save images and html.
Upload the images to a webserver and change the links to rear
