Htc one m7 crapped out without warning last night. Battery not holding a charge and phone not staying on. Tried the online help with power and volume buttons but no joy. Got a blinking red light when trying to charge. Ee shop not much help, anyone got any bright ideas?

Leave it on change using a decent mains charger for a couple of hours. Then hold in power and both volume controls for a couple of minutes. This should recalibrate the battery.

Failing that,

Persist. Assuming that's where you got it from, and assuming it's less than two years old, they're legally obliged to resolve the issue.

Cheers, I tried that as seems it works for so many people but didn't do anything for me. EE shop said they can send it back etc but as the screen is scratched they may just send it right back. I'll do that once I've sorted a temporary handset but I'm up at my folks so don't have my old handset etc. Annoying as it will sit with the homescreen and apps working whilst on charge but drop out without warning. had it charging for hours with no joy. Annoying.
