My go has an Android phone (LG with fancy big screen) that suddenly started being weird. She can't send or receive texts - they show briefly on the screen then disappear - and when making calls it just loses the connection. There are some other weirdnesses that I didn't really understand when she described them.

In the absence of a real clue how to fix it, I'd guess that the first thing to do is restart and restore the bloody thing, but as a (smug) iPhone user I have no idea how. Can the local experts give me an idea what to tell her? Thanks!!!

And for furture use - maybe install an app that backs up sms to her gmail account. Great if you accidentally leave your phone somewhere as you can just look via a pc at you incoming texts.

There's very little that is just saved to my phone - I ? android - fruit free here and smug with it too!

Thanks - I don't think she has much data to lose apart from some blurry photos of babies and dogs, but will it automagically connect to her phone service again, or is there stuff she needs to know how to configure?

First thing you need to do is install a custom keyboard of your preferred style, and then install a custom ROM on your iPhone..... oh no wait.. you can't do any of that can you....( smug Android user here)
😉

But seriously, there are tons of support groups and advice online for this sort of thing. I would try saving everything i need and then a factory data reset. After that, in to the menders i guess..

I don't think she has much data to lose apart from some blurry photos of babies and dogs,

..and contacts. Back up the contacts to Sim or Gmail.

Non backed up data will be lost. Depends on if she uses her google acount for contacts etc or facebook. If it's saved on the phone it will be lost. If it's in the cloud it will come back when she enters her google ID again. Apps can be resent via the play store on a PC to. Will be just like getting a new phone really. (if she has not stored contacts etc to google then try and do it first - google how to - you can also do any contact sanitising/organising in the gmail contacts section)
