How does this work? Trapping a nerve or is it a trained cat?

It thinks it's mummy is carrying it in her mouth.....

or it's thinking;

"If I stay very still maybe this nutter with a bulldog clip will leave me alone."

?

Anyone know where child size bulldog clips can be purchased?

Exactly that, It's an instinctive response to being carried from danger as a kitten. Not overly sure as I approve of the bulldog clips though; seems a bit vicious, you can do the same thing with finger and thumb.

You can do similar with a horse's top lip.

Not that I've tried.

Is that because mummy horses carry their babies by their top lips?

I get that with nipple clamps.

That just looks painful.

It looks a bit mean but I don't think it's hurting the cat, its fur is thick enough to stop it pinching much.

It's not an infallible technique. You can do it to one of our cats (with your hand, not a bulldog clip), and she freezes exactly like that, it's uncanny. Our other one just squeaks angrily and then tries to claw your face off if you don't let go sharpish.

dont know the ins and outs of how it works but apparently it just takes the cat away

My girlfriend does exactly the the same! Although not having a bulldog clip to hand I use my boot.
