Rotten old wood garage needs to go, how much for a replacement?
Recommendations for replacement? Concrete, brick?
Probably needs a slab, assume good ground conditions
Anyone done this?
Bookmarking; me too
its going to depend on size and roof style.
I had an asbestos garage removed, foundation, slab, single skin blockwork walls (3 sides, 4th was house) and corrugated roof for about £7k. c.21m2.

Also bookmarking. Shopping for houses at the moment and none of them have big enough garages.
Considered an old shipping container?
Costing up a garage refurb here, anyone any ideas how much removing an asbestos (will get it tested first to confirm but looks like it is) roof and replaceing with a tiled pitched roof to match the rest of the house. Slightly bigger than a single garage would expect the foundations, slab and walls would be fine.
Bump for lunchtime
We're looking to have a garage built also. Single garage, not *massive* due to space constraints, but built nicely - against an existing house wall, under permitted development.
Waiting back for quotes back from local builders at the moment, but have been estimated at slightly north of 20k+vat.
Other fees (architect / building warrant etc) are not involved in the above. Everyone seems to want a £500 chunk at the moment!
anyone any ideas how much removing an asbestos roof
I was £550 to have a double garage roof taken away.
For any stwer on a budget... We've got a concrete sectional garage ( double length i.e. About 20 foot long). All in good working order including locking up and over door, except some wooden trims need replacing. Pitched Roof is being tested as we speak for asbestos, but roof panels looks simple enough to remove and replace if necessary. Willing to give it away to someone who will come and dismantle it and remove it all from Stockport. It's just in the wrong place in our garden - the only spot that catches the sun!
Asbestos cement sheet in good condition (no broken pieces) is a careful DIY job with expensive disposal costs. Cut the securing fixings from the rear. Locked skip and wrapped in plastic.
Just been quoted £2000 inc Vat to remove & dispose Abspestos roof tiles on a pitched roof and reroof with fake slate reusing the orginal ridge tiles.
We paid about £2.5k all in but did the roof (not inc the felting), doors and electrics ourselves. Slab was already there....
Take old timber garage away - £90 (man in a van picked it up, ridiculously cheap!)
Brick layer using concrete blocks was £750 inc. labour
Roughcasting - £550
Roof materials - £250
Felting - £300
Doors - hardwood - £150
Hinges, locks, hasp etc - £120
Electrics (cheap as I'm in the industry) - £80
Flashings - £80
If you're willing to do some of it yourself you can save a small fortune.
Another question for those that have done it, when removing the asbestos roof do you need to empty the garage or can it be done in a day without having to empty a crap ton of stuff.
Spooky that must be a tiny garage, concrete blocks, sand and cement, lintols, maybe a cill and labour all in for £750
Id be wary if a sheet of asbestos was to break all the fibres lying on your ton of stuff for you to suck in later
11k to build a garaged sized extension on to the back of existing single garage. Extension wider than original garage, footprint approx 16ft by 13ft. Foundations and slab, brick outer wall, block inner wall, flat roof, roof insulated, plaster boarded and skimmed, wall knocked through rear of original garage.
I then spent another £3k ish (and a lot of hours) on finishing touches (paint and electrics throughout) and bringing the original garage up to the spec: New secure main and side doors, insulating and boarding roof and the one external wall.
I had a couple of quotes for mine at around £10k iirc. Decided to DIY it. I did everything from groundworks to electrics. Lots of reclaimed materials. A few eBay purchases, some freebies. Spent about £3k on materials. That's insulated, lined, electrics. Don't think I could've done it any cheaper without scrimping on finishes.
