How much would I expect to pay for someone to register and design a basic website?
A few pages showing my products, a little info and contact details. Nothing too flashy but nice quality.

Edit: They would use templates not a full custom build.

depends how good the developer is, how big the site is and so on and so forth. Certainly for a static site or as site based on a common CMS like Joomla or Drupal, I would be surprised if it were more than a couple of grand, and quite possibly less than a grand

Will you need it updating regularly? Will you need e-commerce or anything like that? Examples of sites you like?

I could knock you a site together for next to nothing. Certainly a lot less than a grand!! I've built a couple of sites as favours for mates (bike importer / shop businesses) and I don't profess to being the best web-designer in the world but if you wanted me to knock something together for you to have a look at I'd be happy to. I fancy a new On-One Summer Season so thats £135 - I could do a site for that much!

Any clown can knock up a website, but if you want a proper job, speak to a professional. Owen Gregory @ Full Cream Milk is excellent: http://www.fullcreammilk.co.uk/

Look at his contact form, to help you think about what you want / need: http://www.fullcreammilk.co.uk/download/fcm_worksheet.doc

The guy who did my website - www.staffhunt.org . You can get him at www.scoosh.com

Phenomonal guy, has all the (legit) tricks and knows his stuff. Also is not a geek so has A LOT of business sense. Ask for Tom and tell him Pedro sent you. You will be looking at around £500 methinks.

Seem to remember Microsoft do some freee thing that guides you step by step through the process. Not great but free. Took me 2 hours to get a basic website up. Then got a mate to do a far better website with bells and whistles for a bottle of decent Scotch
