You could turn your main stopcock off to be safe and then switch tye boiler off at the fuse spur, presuming it has one that isย
IANAP, get proper advice. Messing with the boiler in January could risk freezing and damage.
That said, your choice of:
You could bleed water from a radiator, but don't top the pressure up.
That'll stop it leaking under pressure and should lock the boiler as a fault.
Switch it off at the thermostat (assuming there is one) or set it really low.
Isolator switch might be similar to a light switch, or power off at the consumer unit.
Turn gas off
The isolator is going to be on the other end of that white flex snaking downย to the right of the three pipes.
Will (should) be like a light switch with a second bit for a fuse. And possibly a neon light.
Second releasing the pressure by draining a radiator but.... Without sounding like a dick. That might be a job for someone who knows what they are doing things can get wet then black very fast.
Also second turning the gas off.
I'm thinking that you need a different gas engineer if he can't identify where the water is leaking from in the boiler.ย
The only thing you need to do is switch off the boiler. As above use the fused spur or even just the power button on the boiler. I don't mean to be rude but messing about with the gas tap is not for someone who doesn't know how to switch off a boiler, and it really isn't necessary.
If you want to isolate the water then just pull that white plastic key thing out of the black plastic contraption, bottom right underneath the boiler.
