Like, why is it so hard?

I want to play an album.

I can go to the album by searching for it.

Now I have a choice of:

1. Shuffle Play. But I want to play it in order thanks.
2. Press the first song in the list. At the end it then starts playing the next thing it's dumbass AI thinks follows on from whatever random junk I was playing last week. Today that seems to be a gypsy swing version of Bizet's Carmen. It's playing right now and it's ****ing awful.
3. I can add the album I want to the queue. It'll play some time after the ****ing jazzed up ****ed up Carmen fiinishesd.

ASDajkhsdkjahsdjkahsd.

Is there a music service that doesn't suck quite this badly?

I think you have to pay to be able to do that.

I _do_ pay.

Free account?

With the mobile app, don't think you can play exactly what you want with the freebie. You get a playlist based on the track or album, with promoted music it thinks you'll like. Plus adverts.

Edit: Ah you say you pay. Is it signed in to your account properly and recognising a paid account?

No. Not a free account.

It's signed in OK.

I think maybe it just sucks. Really really badly.

Not quite sure what the problem is. All you do is press on the first track of the chosen album, make sure the random button isn't on, and it’ll play through the album from start to finish. At the end of the album it goes on to similar artists.

Edit. As above, I suspect you aren’t logged in to your paid account on the mobile device.

£4.99 or £9.99 sub? The cheaper one won't do albums on mobile devices, only desktop.

I wonder if I could use a 3d printer to make vinyl records?

Do you need to add the album to your library first?

After album comes up when you've searched for it hit save just underneath the album title.

OK, well I've kicked-off Shostakovitch 10(*). It's now about 10 minutes into the first movement with another 10 minutes or so to go, so we'll see what happens when it gets to the end.

If it seamlessly transitions into gypsy swinged up Bizet I will _not_ be a happy camper.

(*) Amazing piece of music.

For ****'s sake!

It went straight from the end of the 1st movement into the new U2 album which I'd been trying to listen to earlier today (it's OK, but it'll be forgotten in a year's time).

For crying out loud. What is wrong with this? Is it so much to ask?

AAHAAHAHAHRRHRHRVGGRGRRHHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!

Create a playlist of all three movements. Play it.

Create a playlist of all three movements. Play it.

Seriously? That's it?

With an LP, you just play it and it plays all the movements. Perhaps you have to flip it over partway to the B side but that's it.

Same with a CD, except no flipping.

And the same with every MP3 player ever invented.

But you're saying I have to create a playlist for every album I want to play in-order? Good grief.

And it's 4 movements obviously.

And what am I going to do with the Goldberg variations?

search for album, select first track, press play...

edit: actually when you select the first track, it starts playing automatically

As above, this most basic of features doesn't actually work.

I hate Spotify. Google play music for me.

Maybe I'll have to go that route. But I dislike Google's slurping up of all the money in the world.

get the first track.

Click the 3 dots for options, view artist/album etc

Then choose the album.

clearing the queue fixes it. For now. But now I have the rest of this album in the queue. Do I have to go through and clear this stupid queue anytime I switch albums?

No, just don’t add it to the queue and it should be fine

Are you sure you haven't got the shuffle icon switched on...it seems to default to on.

(Shostakovich 10 v v good..have you tried 1st Violin Concerto?)

You don't want to be adding your music to the queue unless you are selecting tracks as you listen.

Once you click on an album to play, it should play the whole lot. The queue would then just show the album contents I think.

My approach is search artist, select albums pick an album, the only button is then shuffle in green, but click the first track and deselect the shuffle button, shown as Criss cross lines. At the end of the album it'll play the artist radio playlist, so just keep an eye on when the last track is. Or in my case forget and end up listening to obscure German rock.

The discover weekly playlist has been really good recently despite the addition of obscure German rock. Found a few interesting new bands.

Ah. Shos!! 5, 7, 8 and 10 for me. In no particular order (just not shuffle play).

On Deezer you just select the album and press play.

Coming from Google play, it's definitely a messy app.

I tweeted Spotify's help desk and they're going to look into it.

I noticed in the settings there is a "stranger things mode" setting, which is enabled. I have no idea what that is, or how to find out.

Meanwhile, Shostakovitch 7. Currently on the 1st movement. Which is amazing. Shall I turn up the volume so you can hear it on this thread?

The queue function is terrible, it's true that who-ever invented that needs taking round the back and given picolax. It's hard to clear, you have to let each track play through to the end (or skip to just the end and let the track play out the couple of seconds), log out, and log in again. if you just delete them next time you come back the list is magically back again, and it defaults to play it, so whatever you start, the next track will be from your queue...Awful. There's reams and reams of stuff on the help pages of people ranting about it, and Spotify (normally pretty good) seem incapable or unwilling to do anything about it.

Don't add to the queue. and have a single song playlist ready as a replacement queue just in case...

Does it turn your screen upside down?

(obscure Netflix joke).

Of course, you don't HAVE to stay with splotiffy.

Tidal here. Better curating, larger library, better sound quality (even at "Premium" 320kbps).

1047kbps CD-quality files available.

So my son has explained it to me.

It seems if you just search for a song, it then dumps that song and a your search results into the queue in a way calculated to cause maximum frustration. It's a feature. But if instead you go to the album, *then* it will do more-or-less the right thing.

So that means I can now go back to some slightly calmer Holst (suite no. 2).

And breathe.

BTW don't you hate a Shos symphony (well any non-vocal music really) being referred to as a song?

Find a 12 yr old to demonstrate how to use the tech. We use Spotify all the time and aside from the random button appearing to be default I reckon it's really good.
