Have a pretty basic HP laptop and a decent Toshiba LCD TV - any ideas?

vga cable and a 3.5mm audio cable should do the job.

Either your laptop will need composite video out socket (yellow minijack), or your TV will need a VGA/DVi in.

Most good LCDs have a VGA or DVI socket for direct connection to a PC. You might need to upgrade or get 3rd party graphics drivers to get native resolution if the laptop is a few years old
