Just sorting a holiday out for the MIL. Any recommendations for hotels in Sorrento. She doesn't walk too well, so the nearer the centre the better.

Come on STW - don't let me down, my reputation as favourite son in law depends on it 🙂

we stayed at Mignon Meublè (admittedly 10years ago) and really enjoyed it. No frills, but quiet and central.

I stayed at Villa Monica with my new wife in May and it was lovely. It is up on the hillside but Pasquale the owner does a lot of free shuttle runs up and down to town through the day. The views from the balconies are quite simply outstanding. She will love you for it.

We went there on honeymoon and stayed in a hotel that I think was called the president or something with president in it anyway. It's up on the hillside but within walking distance of the centre of town. There are regular free shuttle buses run by the hotel. The views are spectacular and the outdoor bar/pool areas are really nice. We had a great time.

Get her to get you a Sorrento cycling jersey from the sports shop in town. It's actually pretty good quality so better than the usual tat the in laws bring back from holiday!

We've stayed at the Conca Park Hotel four times now and would definitely recommend it. We went with the in-laws one year and they managed the short walk in to town. Oh and there's a great little espresso bar next door that sells espresso for 80 cents!

If you need any more info or advice send me an email.

Stayed at The Grand Hotel La Favorita in the centre two years ago. Absolutely fantastic...highly recommended.(Bed & breakfast as well....you'll find alot of hotels only offer half board and eating out in Sorrento is what its all about)

me and the mrs went to sorrento last year and we stayed here: http://www.hotelnicesorrento.com/
it's right in the centre and cheap, the B&B rate is a cold breakfast but the rooms were air conditioned & very clean and the service was great.

If going to sorrento make sure you do 'capri' get the earliest possible ferry and go straight up to the cable car ride, you ride solo to the top of the mountain, it is stunning. Also get the bus to amalfi and get the slow boat back, they stop halfway for a swim and they sell cold peroni on board, awesome.

The 1 bit of advice, though perhaps not for the MIL, is to get a hire scooter from the stall at the harbour, amazing times to be had!

yes we saw a few accidents too..I wouldn't recommend myself..Taxis are cheap..so are the ferries and the trains & buses are amazing value. Just don't forget to get your ticket stamped!

But nothing beats having the freedom to fly along the amalfi coast on 2 wheels, stopping as you please for photos, nipping out on the bike for dinner at night or being able to park wherever you like. You'll only crash if you aren't confident.

For eating, I can recommend Il Liono Rosso, near the train station, Inn Buffolito and Vino Vero. All 3 are packed with locals. Also the pizza place hidden away off the main routes Mama Mia. Top quality wines for around E3 for a large glass, proper grub for under a tenner, all good good good. (yes I am biased and want to go back there!).
