So the chez "Wrighty" crew reckon its a good idea. I'm not so sure. Anybody actually got one and have a real idea of what they cost to use weekly.

In laws had one and reckoned it cost about 50 quid a month in leccy. Used to be best in winter though, was great being in the minus figures and jumping in the hot tub with a beer. They haven't had it on for about18 mths now though. Think a fuse kept blowing and they couldn't be arsed fixing it.

Not exactly real world but we had a hot tub in a chalet ( 2 caravans stuck together but nice all the same).

We were bored of if after the novelty wore off after just a few days.

If I was going to get one, it would have to be one of those you can set a flow speed to swim against but I doubt I'll get one.

Having friends round to share your tub or using one on holiday etc. is .............. I dunno, I just don't fancy lounging around with other peoples bum detritus floating around with me.

Isn't a glass fruitbowl cheaper? (keys chink)

Pineapple and cheese stick? Verity? Delighted, where's Nigel been hiding you all this time, although I can see why...

An ex had one.
As others have said, the novelty wears off quickly. I reckon that I used it no more than five times in two years. Keeping it clean was a pain. Slugs love them. It must have cost a fortune to run. When it broke it took her 6 months to sort it out, so I guess she couldn't be bothered with it.

Well to be fair the mrs and I sit having a bath and the odd glass of vino at least 2/3 times a month so that was where the idea came from. Might stick to that rather than spunking 50 quid a month on leccy!

Real world user here, or not user is probably more accurate !

We inherited ours when we moved house with a pretty expensive hot tub left behind by the previous owner.

As others have said the novelty wears off. I didn't do too bad at using it for the first year but this year I think I've been in it twice.

I also drove myself mad for the first 8 months trying to balance the water with a shelf full of chemicals until I discovered a once a week one shot treatment (Aqua Finesse).

As we've always had it I haven't a clue what the electricity costs are but chemicals work out to about £20 a month.

If your looking second hand bear in mind pumps are expected to last about 5 years and most tubs usually have two. I've had to replace one at £500 😯 but got away with just replacing the seals on the second one for about £30.

Also all the clips holding in the jet heads perish over the years and fall out. New jet heads are bloody expensive at £5/£10 each considering there are 80 odd in our tub.

If you do go ahead think where your going to put it. Its never the same if you are over looked and Id recommend you buy a cover lifter, you do really want to make it as easy and convenient to use as possible or you wont use it at all!

Surely I can't be the first to reference the bible of such matters:

My friends managed to find a house at Uni that had a hot tub.

Their comments in our chat group were full of elation, excitement, and predictions of how man "huneys from the club" that would be removing their undergarments at the mere mention of a hot tub back at their place.

They used it maybe 5 times over two years, and the number of women they got into the hot tub totalled 1 - who was a girlfriend of one of the guys. (Two others had partners also but they refused apparently, can't imagine why!)

Allegedly the house they rented belong to a notorious drug dealer in the area. When they got the keys the landlord said with the straightest of faces: "Don't let bitches do any coke in the hottub, because that's how bitches drown.".

They also found his grim porn stash but that's another story for another time.

one of my friends here has one, was installed several - 3 or more - years ago. There was a lot of "round at James' for the hot tub" for maybe up to a year - I haven't been round to his for a while to be fair, not a hot tub night anyway, but I get the impression it's not used much these days. Must burn fivers to run I'd expect..

Hot tubs.
It's like having a bath.
In your garden.
With your mum...

Mother in law lives in Spain and has one. It gets used loads, especially when we're visiting. The kids absolutely love it. Despite all that I simply wouldn't want the expense and hassle of having one

We hired a chalet with one in the FOD for the last 2 years, I think the novelty wore off before the week was up on both occasions and that was without having to do any of the cleaning or paying for leccy.

yep. got one. or rather my partner has. Its good, used it yesterday afternoon. Probably nearer £30 on electricity a month.

People have really strange ideas about them being for swingers only. Yes they are nice on a dark evening with some wine and the one you love... But actually kids like them too.

Surprised this video hasnt been posted yet...
