Outside my window, on a beautiful sunny day, it sounds like someone is spinning up a particularly noisy hope pro II hub - 3 seconds, 1 second, 12 seconds....
Yet, when I look outside - [b]nothing![/b]
It really doesn't have the chirp of a cricket.
It really [b]does[/b] sound like a freehub spinning up...
Intelligent (or not so) guesses as to the sound - I'll explore after morning surgery if it continues...

That wren recording has to be the worst bird recording ever.
Good call on the beetle. We heard a ticking noise comming from an old wardrobe. Got back from holiday to find a massive exit hole.
I've never heard a wren make those road traffic noises before...
