Just cannot see where the need to shoot him multiple times was. Seriously WTF???
Saw this the other day and it's totally shocking, but then it is the good ol' USofA. Weren't they claiming he got hold of one of the officers guns, which is why they opened fire?
In the USA you're 8 times more likely to be killed by the Police than a Terrorist...
Why is there so much media coverage of terrorism?
And why do the Police involved invariably get away with it?
Yes - that's what they are saying. There's a better account on the BBC website. I cannot even see clearly which cop(s) shot him, let alone whether he had a gun. Feels like they panicked
The suggestion was he was as going for/got an officers gun. In which case, I can understand the shot.
Not sure I get why with 5/6 officers around, he could not have been wrestled into submission.
But then I was not there, and the video does show enough detail.
Horrid.
I read recently that 1 in 3 black males in the US will end up in jail at some point in their lives, and if you're black and under 21, you're 21 times more likely to be shot by the police than if you're white,
Incredible.

Incredible indeed, would very much like to see this, do you have a link ?
Watch out he's going for the Mad Dog 20/20.................bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang!
Seems a bit excessive!
I said read, my mistake, it was on a podcast - this American life - they did a special two parter about the police in the US. It was actually pretty impartial too.

edit2: though I can only see it mentioned in the abstract from a quick scan.
Saw this yesterday morning. Simply shocking.
You could hear them tazing him for what seemed like ages too.

While another one is clubbing his head in with his night stick.
Before the "sticking it to the man" crowd get in here, kind of shows ours aren't always that bad.
If you have Netflix watch "The House I Live In" Great documentary about the war on drugs in the USA.
What the **** are their ROEs?
IF homeless matey did manage to whip a weapon from the copper (with so many of them!), they should be reprimanded and retrained or fired (!) immediately. They can't just knock around shooting vagrants. Or maybe they can. Proper rotten shit.
Are they tazing him at the same time as telling him to let go of the gun?
(The Economist)Even after adjusting for the smaller size of Britain’s population, British citizens are around 100 times less likely to be shot by a police officer than Americans.
About 400 American citizens are killed by their own police force every year. In the UK it averages out at less than one. I have genuinely no idea why it is so bad over there, but it is clearly very, very bad.
The police force are only ever going to be a reflection of the society they serve
Not sure why but I spent a while watching this and other police shooting videos. A few things in common with most....
There is a very clear socio-economic and therefore racial pattern to most.
American cops appear generally very panicky and poorly trained.
The speed at which things escalate over there is scary
You need to shoot somebody A LOT with police calibre weapons before they keel over...
Scary. I'm glad to live here!
If you're that scared of being shot with your own gun, you should take it off before you start beating up the homeless man.
The US is just so broken...... this makes me feel physically sick.
I live next to a big police station here in Australia, and the police walk about in "tactical" boiler suits, tooled-up like they are about to deploy in Helmand province rather than leafy Sydney. I'm not sure if it's cause, or effect, but the police here are definitely less friendly, and are viewed very differently by the public than in the UK.
Hmmm...

I'm not sure what kind of holsters they use, but soldering is a bit different to policing isn't it? Policemen having their own weapons turned on them is not all that uncommon throughout the rest of the world, due to the nature of the work they do - that is getting close without their weapons drawn. Soldiers on the other hand pretty much have their weapons drawn all the time around suspected enemy combatants.
I'm going to play devils advocate here and say that if he did lunge for the officers weapon, he pretty much got what was coming to him unfortunately. The joys of having an armed society!
