We have been having some really annoying issues recently that I am not able to work out.
Any peripherals we have connected, such as a printer, NAS or Apple TV keep loosing the network and the only way of getting them to reconnect is to restart the router (BT Home Hub) and in the case of the NAS, shut that down and restart.
I have a feeling its something to do with IP addresses, but I'm out of touch with hardware so no idea what exactly is going on.
Any ideas?
Do you have a way of scanning your locality for other WiFi signals? It may be that changing to another channel will help avoid interference.
You say "Home wifi problems", are all the mentioned devices connected on WiFi or are some on ethernet?
is it password protected or might other people's phones etc be connecting and confusing it ?
I had a home hub - latest version. Exactly the same problem. BT no help, in the end I but the bulls and bought an AirPort Extreme to handle the wifi... Absolutely no problems since.

I didn't buy the bulls, I bit the bullet. Bloody phone
Have you tried buying her flowers?
We had a similar problem with the home hub dropping the Apple TV &/0r printer. Changed to the Apple extreme & now no problem. Also a tad further range too

😀
Try changing wifi channel on the router.
Apple defaults. If you reset Wi fi settings on your Apple product then it usually solves it. Router is also shit. I bought a commercial one and never had the problem again. Free routers work as well as something you would expect for free.
we had wifi problems. we now have Cat5 cabling and no wifi problems
Never had issues with Windows linux or android with home hubs. Apple stuff mates had always seemed to be poor at connecting to it. Would probably suggest cable to your nas and probably the tv too just for better speed etc. I ended up with a belkin router again same story perfect with everything flakey with apple. Not sure router is the problem sometimes.
It is the router ultimately as it gets confused. Although I hate Apple
The router is connected to the NAS by cable. It's the wireless bit to the computers where it gets lost.
It happens roughly every 24hrs.
I had hoped it wouldn't be a router issue, but hardly surprised from a BT product.
Possible quick fix - we had the same issue with bt broadband ... I just put a time clock on the bt gubbins - turns it off for 10 mins at 4 in the morning and no problems since.
This thread is nowhere near as good as the other one.
As suggested, try a different channel. "Wifi Analyzer" on a mobile is good for this.
Failing that, faulty router?
I spoke to BT about the same problem on my Home Hub 3 last week, they're replacing the hub. I doubt it will be any better but it's worth a try, the problem appears to be that the hub runs out of IP addresses after a day or so and needs resetting (we do have quite a few WiFi devices connected).
modify the lease time on the DHCP settings on your router, set it to say 5 hours. Or change the number of IP's available to lease.
i find mobile devices, such as phones or ipads are crap at renewing, they seem to hog the lease indefinitely.
BT Home and business hubs are variable in their ability to keep going. Get BT to replace it. One we have at work is laughable. We overcame its shortcomings by plugging an Airport Extreme into it. The BT hub's wireless falls over like a drunk. The Airport Extreme still continues to perform well.
Running out of IP addresses seems a bit of a red herring with up to 255 available but it might be worth trying Wonkey_Donkey's DHCP leasing change. I agree that some mobile devices are a bit weird when their lease expires. You could overcome this by assigning your regular devices specific IP addresses in the router settings.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
Thanks for the tips. I've changed the wifi channel settings and the DHCP lease time. Hopefully it will work as I don't want to be spending out on extra bits of kit.
my home hub 2 does this all the time. have tried various different channels but sometimes the wifi just drops out completely.
am currently waiting on an airport to replace it.
What I've done with my setup at home is to assign static IPs to EVERY device that normally connects to it (by ethernet or Wifi) and that seems to have sorted it out.
The iPad used to be pretty fussy in this respect. I think theres a conflict in how long apple stuff keeps the lease on its assigned IP.
There is no reason to use DHCP for any items that do not move out of the network - i.e. desktops, NAS and AppleTV. Assign static IP's for them and limit DHCP for properly mobile devices.
