Have finally snapped and decided that life is too short to drink French beer. Local Supermarket stocked Brewdog for 6 months or so and only succeeded in reminding me of what I was missing.
Seriously considering having a go at brewing my own. Anyone got any advice for a home-brew first attempt? Would like to come out with a drinkable result, rather than just the novelty of producing my own "beer". Probably some kind of IPA?
In the mean-time, anyone driving out that can squeeze in a case or two of Brewdog will have my sincere thanks!
Go for something really simple...just some Maris Otter and pick a nice hop (Cascade for example). Perhaps throw in a wee bit of light crystal.
You can't really go too far wrong with recipes....it's good processes that make good beer IMO.
Maybe start with a kit just until you find your way? Although, I never bothered with that and went straight to all grain without any difficulties, so it's not really a prerequisite
Plenty of recipes and advice in here.
Where in France are you? I can get Marstons etc in Auchan (well, it's called Al Campo over the border but essentially same supermarket), and it's not too steep.
Brweing, start by brewing on the stove and consider using a good quality kit first, to get the hang of the process and the sanitisation, bottling etc. The problem you'll have is it's hard to get reasonably priced grain on the continent without paying a fortune for shipping from UK, so try a few kits first.
I'm in Bourg Saint Maurice. Can get Spitfire, London Pride and a few others in the "foreign foods" section at SuperU / Intermarché but it's pretty steep at €3.50 a bottle.
