As a child I used to watch the black and white Buck Rodgers and Flash Gordon series every weekday morning during the holidays. It was a fantastic part of Christmas for me.

I now have kids of my own, 13 and 10 and wanted to watch something together with them this Christmas. The Mandalorian or Alex Rider would have been ideal but we've seen those already. I had been saving Andor for this but I've heard it's not great for kids.

So, STW, what can you recommend to us?

The new Wurzel Gummidge, although your 13 yr old might find it a bit young for them

You could also go for the Stranger things series on Netflix, also sweet tooth and Lost in Space on the same service

Your 10yr old may be different but I’m not sure I’d watch stranger things with my 11yr old. Gets pretty dark.

His dark materials on iplayer? Book 1/2 on demand and book 3 on this Christmas?

It caused sleepless nights in my 51-year old.

Flash Gordon - the movie.

Gregory's Girl is another movie which will entertain all generations.

Thanks people, Wednesday and Dark Materials look like they fit the bill. Derry Girls also will get a watch at some point. I think we've seen all the new Wurzels, is there another one due this Christmas?

If they like Marvel then Hawkeye is a great watch and it's set at Xmas so it's quite festive. Not necessary to know all the MCU stuff to enjoy it and it's slightly aimed at a younger audience

Wednesday was fun although the plot was a little convoluted. Very stylish. It took me an episode to place Brianne of Tarth.

We're up to episode 5 of His Dark Materials and we're looking forward to the rest.

Derry Girls was a bit too fast and too far from my children's life experiences (the youngest is still at primary school and they've only ever been to the UK on holiday).

Thanks to all for the recommendations.
